Ran an open trip today w/ 5 anglers -- looking to target bass and bluefish on the jigs. Yesterday the action was on fire locally and even I got into the action from the MI S Jetty. Hoping for a repeat Sunday we left early with great expectations.
Got out just past 6 and found some great readings and some bluefish looking to jump on our jigs. After the first 15 or so minutes, things slowed tremendously and we really didn't see much as we just had a fish here and there, lots of follows, still great readings but nothing coming into the boat. Pat was lucky enough to boat our first bass of the year (our only one of the day) on an AVA jig. After that bass, things slowed even further.
Going up on the troll w/ spoons and stretches, we had a slow pick of big blues - no more bass, for the rest of the day.
Wound up with about 3/4 of the big box filled with 5-13# blues -- most are turning into shark and fluke bait. Filleted a few for the crew also.
Nice day, although the catching was slow we still had some action!
