Fished today in high winds out of Great kills into NJ side of the Raritan. Lots of large fish on the screen, with not much action. Many boats were hooked up w numerous smaller stripers while trolling. Ran out of fuel on my way back just a mile away from the launch. Hailed down a boat named J2 who towed me in for 20 minutes out of their busy fishing day. Did not accept anything in return. Much appreciated as we were rowing agains a stiff NW wind T 15-20 knots and would have been home way late. I always return a favor to my fellow fishermen and much obliged.

You have to tip your hat when a boat takes time away from it`s customer to put someone in need 1st.

I've towed 3 boats in the last couple of years just in hope that favor is returned if I ever need it. Hats off to J2

First,, great job to the J2 helping a fellow boater out, but how the heck do you run out of fuel? Always use the 1/3 rule 1/3 out, 1/3 back and 1/3 just in case! Fill up before you leave !

The problem is getting fuel gauges that work. Old Model T's I think had a sight glass and the fuel tank was in back of the dash so you could see the fuel all the time.

I have a regular tank with a 9.9hp. Usually use 1 gallon per day max as I don't go far but today with the wind and a bit of trolling at low rpm, apparently I used more than expected. I'm hoping J2 read the thread and accepts my gratitude. Me and my friends tow people in quite often. Code of honor for us.

I was on my way into Keyport on Sunday and past a boater in distress. I threw them a line and towed them to the municipal ramp (where they started). Karma baby.

Great job by the Capt of the J2. Hey guys give him a break as they say sh*t happens. Been towed in a couple times in my day :( blown drive twice etc. i also towed a few in as well. That's the great part about our sport almost all the people boat follow the unwritten rule of helping a boat in distress.
I will bet anything that want happen again to him, we live we learn. Glad every one is home safe.

Just to play devils advocate here....what are the legal issues involved if being a good Samaritan goes wrong?

I've helped my fair share of boaters and have been helped myself many times over. Just had me thinking after seeing one "sue everybody" attorney commercial after another on tv.
