Very few anglers are showing up to fish the Atlantic Highlands PBs, to the point that hardly any boats are making it out, and those that do are light. This is not a sustainable situation for the captains, or for the mates. (Disclaimer - I have no commercial interest in any of those boats, just like to fish them.)
The fishing for shorts is pretty good. More keepers are being caught day by day. If you insist that a single striper is not enough, well, I disagree, but the old rules are still in effect anyway. Are you waiting for better reports? Boats that can't sail because the customers stay home will generate no reports at all. We count on these boats. Let's support them.

I think people need to know that the old rules are still in effect. I didn't know that until I saw it yesterday and I'm here every day. Guess all the doom & gloom about new regs is the only thing people see. And I agree, I'm happy with one + the action.

I think its a sign of the economy and the fishery as a whole. you an catch shorts from the sand so I think many are taking adv of this

If you are waiting out the shorts than come on down now they are gone, we had a great day on the fisherman wednesday everyone had at least one keeper.

While I love many boats on this site, and will do a number of PB/charter trips for stripers, right now there isn't much of a difference then the popular beach spots over jumping on a party boat. On the sand you leave when you want and will spend 70-90$ less after everything(120-150$ less for a charter). I rather save that money up for fluke season and select livelining days where you need to be on a boat usually.

Work, family, decent Cod bite, bluefish on the rocks/sand, tile fishing started, more well established seasonal guys chartering the bay, access to stripers in the Delaware River...just to name a few reasons.

I am the OP. Is your question for me? I mentioned only Atlantic Highlands because that's where I've been so far this year, and have no first-hand knowledge of what kind of traffic the Belmar/PP/Brielle boats have been seeing.

Exactly! And yet the turnout is a shadow of previous years.
