The key is to triangulate. If you are even with the black and yellow water tower on the south side in Keyport and the Church steeple on Mount Lorreta on the north side and the blue water tower off Morgan to the west you are in the right place. The water at high tide will be 21'. Two anchors are preferred but not a must. Flounder like the mud and that is what it is. Bass and flounder can be caught in the same place. I use chum pots and throw whole kernel corn. Although the limit is only two flounder it is worth bringing some sand worms if your targeting bass.
If you are cracking clams and the current is slow try dicing up a bunch and throw them with a ladle. This will create a better slick and draw the bass in. If you are concentrating on bass dead stick the flounder rods. When the water warms up and bass start taking bunker it is a whole new ball game. Purple stretch 25 trolled at 4 knots 150 feet back are deadly! I prefer to bunker fish but I will clam if that is what it takes. Although there are many very experienced fisherman on this site this might help a few of you beginners. You don't need a big boat for this area either. PS- NY Striper season opens o 4/15 and the limit is one 28'' or better. Know were the boundry line is!:)
