So as we all know sleeping is tough the night before fishing. Woke up at 4:30 on the road at 5 and drove up to Venice to meet a friend to go offshore for grouper. Boat left the dock at 6:30, stopped on the way out to catch bait and off we went. A 65 mile ride doing 32-33 knots so it wasn't that bad. Got to see a beautiful sunrise (and even did see the sunset) and before you know it we were fishing.
Captain worked his tail off, moving whenever the bite died. When it was slow I watch him open a hammered jig and low and behold it was from Jigging World, so that was cool to see. The bite was off and on for most of the day.
Ran into so Amberjacks and the biggest one landed was 95 pounds

The 2 highlights of my day were watching the 2 kids on the boat fight the jacks and my buddy fighting either a Goliath grouper or large black grouper that he fought for a while but the fish decided he liked the bottom of the gulf better.
Captain stayed out extra to get us some more fish. Went back to his house, helped fillet the fish and headed home. There was a person there who cooked a nice fillet for me w/ some cajun seasoning and tarter sauce.
Called the wife and blamed the captain but she said don't worry chilling some wine and lets go in the hot tub  Can't ask for more than that.

Trying to get out one more time before heading up north.

Glad to see the recommends for Capt Joe on Fish Galore paying off for others down in Venice FLA. Capt is a commercial fisherman who I have befriended and fish with every trip down there. Great trips as you see here are the norm and with a variety of species caught on each trip and no expense spared. If you're fortunate, his friends from the fish market show up with a variety of sauces to eat fresh fish right at his house/cleaning station in Osprey. Looks like another great trip was had here..
