View Full Version : Do ya camp reels for deep-drop tiles etc?

When I started bottom-fishing I clamped all of my reels for added security.
Then I realized it was unnecessary, it was uncomfortable and inconvenient.
Tile-fishing is different as reels are a lot more expensive, the fish are generally bigger, stronger and potentially much bigger and stronger. There is also more strain on the rod & reel due to the extreme depth, extreme size of the sinkers / jigs along with the strain due to the previously mentioned fish.
All of that being said, do you guys clamp or not?
Thanks!

Not necessary as long as the reel seat firmly secures the reel.

If it comes with the reel, I use it...you know the old adage--an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure....It's not really necessary but it makes me feel better with reel clamped for offshore fishing...
