capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took bob wood of wood realty manasquan, along with his grandson justin smith, larry smith, keith carlson, and stevie delicious, out to the hudson canyon for an overnighter. we started out at the tip in search of some life but didn't see much. crossing over later in the morning we had a screamer on the way back, after a 1 hour battle by " the "a" team we had a 135 bigeye in the boat and all were happy. we continued trolling and shortly we had another shot on the same way back, after a shorter battle we had a nice 60lb wahoo on the leader but those razor sharp teeth chaffed the leader, and we were denied that tasty critter. we then circled back and bam! another tuna bite, after 10 minutes it was obvious we had another bigeye, and this one was nasty. an hour later bigeye number two was on ice. we proceeded to troll and about 530pm or so the wolfpack came knocking and it was awesome as it always is, 4 rods come tight and it's game on. these fish acted bigger by their fight and we were on them into the dark. after what seemed like an eternity we boated 3 of the four including the largest to date for the jenny lee a fish that was measured at 70" long and 54" girth, they tell us that fish was about 240lbs...wow. i'd like to commend stevie "delicious" madden for staying on his rod the entire time, unlike the other guys who were totally exhausted from battling the other bigeyes, mr delicious hung in there the entire time. after cleaning up we started to chunk and sure enough we had about an hour and a half flurry where we put 4 more yellowfins in and lost another 7 or so...the guys were whooped. in the early morning hours we had a longfin taken and at that point we realized we had no more ice to insure keeping all the fish primo, so we headed to the barn in pea soup fog. it was an absolute pleasure fishing with these guys and can't wait till next year.
