Last year I did this page also here.http://www.njfishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66880
Seems there is more ice now and still growing much latter then last year at this time.
Info regarding where ice is covering areas and flowing may be helpful for many out there for navigation.
River ice is also getting thick from the prelonged cold weather and poses a big flooding issues in when it decides to let lose in the spring.
Be safe out there.

The Shrewsbury river from Monmouth Beach to the confluence with the Navesink at Rocky Point is frozen with jagged chunks of ice. The eastern side of Sandy Hook Bay is the same way. There were some ice flows in the canal in PT Pleasant as well. If someone on this board came out of his house on Feb. 2nd and saw your shadow, I blame you.

Flounder through the ice? I was thinking the same thing as I pictured tip ups all over the bay on St. Patrick's Day.

Well for the most part Winter Flounder don't eat as much while they are spawning-which they do even under the ice. Yes they can be caught when they haven't spawned out but feed heavy prior and after they spawn.

You know whats weird?.. Back in the 70's and 80's, I used to catch whiting and ling all winter out of AH. .. Seldom were the boats locked up as bad as those pics indicate, although I do recall boats breaking through light skim ice at times.. At that time we never heard about "man made climate change" Yet now, after decades of "global warming", the harbor is frozen solid... Can't buy the global warming argument, sorry... Its just hard to accept when you are typing in bright sunshine through the window, yet my thermometer outside reads 0... bob

Somebody has a lot of explaining to do for that. It looks like the ice kept creeping and building under the bow and raised it enough to drop the stern below the surface of the water. I didn't see any evidence of bubblers, but wasn't someone checking on the boat? We had a new moon and the tides were affected to some extremes so that could have been a factor too.
