Finally touched down on some muskie waters & got a few lines wet. Had a few tip-ups going with small/med/large live bait, and was jigging here & there with the same and wax worms. Had 2 bites. One, on a wooden tri-fold tip-up w/flag, bait stolen. Next, was a muskie on my homemade "slammer". I rarely lose fish on this thing. Automatic hook-set when fish takes slack line from hanging bobber, and drag still works to set preferences. Rigged with a modified Tweety Bird pole...I know, lol, its caught some diff BIG fish though!! My 1st muskie so far but beat the Skunk so I'm 1 for 1 in the Ville! Def be back there soon!

wow very nice! nice home made jaw jacker too, i've thought about making one of those too, i'll have to try it.
i've never got a muskie through the ice, but then again i've only really targeted them successfully in open water so i'll have to check it out!
i rarely see the ones with the spot paterns, very nice!

Thanks guys. Def a beautiful fish! If you don't mind sharing, how does that contraption work????
No doubt! I hook up Tweety 1st and check depth to where I want it. Leaving that line loose before I bait it, I pull up spring-board and attach to a key ring that hangs of tip of pole at the eye (key ring needed for more sensitivity on trigger). After slammer is locked n loaded, I bait up and drop the loose depth set line down and wait. The slip bobber sits on the line between both eyes of the pole. The lower it hangs, the more time the fish has to get the bait in it's mouth and run before bobber raises and triggers the set. The higher the bobber hangs, the less the fish will be able to run before the set. Once bobber springs the set, pole jerks back & sets the hook, spring-board "SLAMS" on the baseboard as an alarm, WHAAPP, fish on!! Not my invention, just fabricated my own but it does work. I actually made this thing right before my 1st time on the ice & caught my 1st ice-fish on it. I overheard some ice vet of the lake we fancy was telling my boy it wasn't gonna work for even panfish and blah blah blah. Then WHAAAP!! FISH ON!! As clear as I heard them over the ice, they both heard my slammer and watched it produce. So, veteran or not, you do your homework and study, you can produce your own results. I'm always learning.

I just heard about these slammers while on Hopatcong the 17th, guy uses them for landlocked salmon. That's a beautiful handcrafted job you did. And the musky, wow, you couldn't ask for a better first fish. The spots are gorgeous and the size seems just right to ease in towards the torpedoes.

Thanks Bruce! I took my time making it the right way so it would work for whatever I'm targeting. There were a few designs I took from to compile the best design for myself. It's made only to fit my 1 pole, but I think it's design is more trustworthy. Pros & cons to everything, naturally. But here's the official brand's link, you can decide. http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.slammertipup.com/slammertipups.html&sa=U&ei=FfjOVOCXLIqcNsHrgOgN&ved=0CAsQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNHXhP3-TlyXUW7GRWjIiUkLubFLkw
I'm not tryin to make $$ by the way, just catch fish.
So, anyone else have diy tip-ups, traps, etc. Let's hear it!!! I'll show you mine if you show me yours, lmao.
