Saturday i woke up to 7 inches of snow on the road...i was supposed to hit a private lake ice contest but i had to wait for the plows to come by, just once! they didn't pass by till 8! Glad my Hopatcong tax dollars are working...
sliding all over the place dodging other psychos driving around in the mess, got to jefferson where they actually know how to clean the roads and went plow dodging to get to our contest haha.
anyway my buddy and i got there 2 hours after the contest start to meet my father-in-law and we got to work. my tip up with the most action was a covered one with the bait half way down the water column and i put in a monster pickerel to hold first place for most of the day...unfortunately i got knocked out of the money later in the day by just 2oz! and unfortunately x2 This fish (although released after weigh in) was technically not legal for the skillful angler C&R and i didn't want to kill it to go weigh it in. So my first SA fish of the year doesn't even count haha, it did swim away though.
other than that we got a slew of average sized pickerel on tip ups which we mixed up with different sized bait, some covered some open. We got most of our action 2-3ft off bottom with the bigger shiners on closed tip up holes.
Jigging panfish...picky picky, i got none and i could see them staring at all my jigs, hold still, slow lift, slow drop, fast, sideways, didn't matter. but my persistant father-in-law jigged up a nice bass on a jigging rap fire perch color.
