It's been a fishing goal of mine for a while to catch a Muskie. Previous efforts in open water have been fruitless lol. Anyway I finally got one today on a tip up. This guy was a tight fit through my 8" hole. Pretty pumped to cross this off my list.

Nice fish buddy! Glad to see you crossed another species off your list. Friggin AWESOME! Let me guess, it ate a medium/large shiner and you landed it on 10lb test, LOL! Great accomplishment and beautiful Ski!!!:D

Eddie - I'm bummed I didn't have my contest tag with me but oh well. I was a little better prepared this time after breaking a big fish off in this spot last year. I was using a 20 pound braid and a 25 pound mono leader with about a 5" shiner.

Great catch man!! Congrats! I've yet to put one of these guys under my belt as well. Epic pic too bro. You look like "The Bringer of Rain".

Just curious if this fish was release. If so, did hooking it on live bait and pulling it through the narrow hole have any detrimental effects on the fish?

Do you work for the FBI? DEA? Secret service? That's what I'm curious about! I'm 100% positive my friend released this fish without a problem. After all, he catches 10ft sharks off the beach with no issues.

seriously though hell of a catch i've had no problem getting musky in open water but haven't ever pulled one through the ice, or iced a pike bigger than 3-4lbs for that matter...lost my big guy at the hole this weekend...glad to see you hoisted yours up for a pic! congrats!

Very nice, congrats.

How as it walking out to that point? How did you guys deal with getting over those pressure cracks?

LOL! Thanks Eddie. He was hooked deep in his mouth but not in the gut. I released him and he swam away strong. I watched him through the ice as he dove back down so no problems. I wouldn't keep a muskie in Jersey bc I want the fishery to be as good as possible.

Very nice, congrats.

A couple dicey spots and you probably know where I am talking about. I tested every step with my bar until I got away from the cracks. After that no problems.

Just ask for XL shiners. Any good B&T should have some that size or close

Thanks for your response. My question was directed to you and not the other guys who replied. As for those guys, there is no need for the sarcastic comments, especially since the question was not directed at you. This board welcomes new members but some of these replies don't indicate that. All I did was ask a simple question.
