My son (active U.S.M.C.) is moving down there from Pa. I was wondering when fishing starts to get good down there for bottom fishing. I recall some postings about that here on this forum. I'm guessing out of Morehead City, thanks.

Fishing out of Morehead City is pretty good. There's a big boat that frequents the Continental Shelf so you never know what you might catch. Also, since he's active military, he may want to hook up with Canyon Runner for some Big Eye fishing. They offer free trips for active military out of Morehead City during our winter here in NJ.

spent a few years on Lejeune.the camp is full of fresh water ponds that are full of bass, sunnies and crappies.the saltwater fishing is also good and he dose
not have to go all the way to moorehead.try swanpoint marina,i worked deck on a head boat called the blue harion on weekends when I was not on duty.the good fishing starts in march and gose right thru till December.there are allot of fishing piers along that way to.
Bob, fishing is superb down there.. inshore, bottom, bluewater. all year round there is something going on. just find out where you'll be and find out the local marina and what boats are sailing for what, and you'll get dialed in in no time.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm gonna go down in late June right after Grandsons school year ends. Better than waiting till later in the summer to vacation in NJ. (Will probably do that too), but in mid-September.
