View Full Version : No bite No fish
Fished Tuesday out of Belmar. Fishing was horrible. Hardly any bites for everyone all day. Talk about turned off and closed mouths. Most of the boat went home with nothing to show. I was lucky to be one of the few to catch dinner. My fish bit five minutes before we headed home. Thank God. One cold boring blackfish day out of the way.

What boat. Maybe we can compare your report to the captains?

Oh that bites  or doesn't bite in this case. Sorry you had a bad day :( I hope I don't follow that tomorrow when I'm out. Was it a boat you frequent?
I fished on a good party boat from Belmar. I have since heard the day stunk for the whole fleet. I had two friends fishing on other boats from two other ports, AH and PP reporting the same results. One boat fished north where we were. The PP boat was on the Axel Carlson reef all day.
An old timer one time told me that blackfish hate noise and vibration. He said that all the sinkers on a party boat banging the rocks causes them to shut down after sitting a while on one spot. He reasoned that a smaller boat like a six pack or private boat will always out-fish a party boat. Any comments from others on this subject?

I fished on a non-sponser out of AC last year. The captain, an experienced diver, told us any noise from the boat scares the fish. He gave us hermit crabs for bait and wouldn't allow us to break them on his aluminum boat. We had to hold them in a rag in our hand to smash them with a hammer. My hand hurt for days.

I have never heard this one before but I guess it makes sense. Anything that's not natural would probably throw off a bite whether it's noise or something else. Gotta go with captains advice on this one but personally have never heard that before
I forgot to add that I was told by an old captain that aluminum or steel boats send more noise and vibration through the hull than wooden boats. And this is a turn off for blackfish. I guess all the feet stamping around the metal deck can send noise through the water.

Not sure how much I buy into the old captain's or diver's theories. Maybe if you are fishing in ten feet of water. If blackfish are really turned off by the sounds from metal boats how do you explain the fact that plenty of them have consistently put up great catches for many years, Ocean Explorer, J II, Dauntless, Norma K to name just a few.
I used to spearfish a bit and blackfish are not even that spooked by a human swimming up to them with a speargun in hand. Just my observation.

I believe u r correct , shallow water might deep don't believe so ! Too many fish caught om metal boats to support this theory.
