Has this been the best blackfing in the last 10-15 years or what. I've been out 5 times and had a boat limit plus with some real nice fish mixed in.
Every post I read is the same, even most party boats are doing well.
I guess the closed & 1 fish seasons are working.

agreed...
I'm a hack at best and I had a double limit one day.
The further south seems best though

Have to agree Pete. Limits and quality fish each trip out so far this year. Seeing lots of larger fish caught in the posts also....Hoping it continues deep into the season.

Had one bad trip this year when there were very large swells. All other trips caught easy limits.Still catching in very shallow water.

I can't agree with you more states like New York short seasons 4 fish limit doesn't hurt. It wasnt that long ago it used to be 10 fish up there. Even though we hate the regs the fishing has improved. I only hope the Cod will improve I fear those worms are hurting their reproductive cycles. I only wished that the whiting would return that could help the winter fishery greatly.

3 trips so far
Angler 2 shorts for me and most guys got skunked
J2 4 keepers for me but most guys got skunked
NK3 3 shorts for me. Lost a 7 pounder yelling for a net to no avail. One guy had 9 but most guys got skunked
Guess I was at the wrong place at the wrong time to see this great togging.

Mixed bag for me. Averaging 3 keepers but 12 and 9 among them on the Monger. No complaints here but I still suck at fishing...

4 more trips
J2 1 keeper, Whalefart has his 13 pounder and 1 other, high hook 3 and most got skunked
J2 1 keeper on board to win the pool. NK3 fishing near us had lousy fishing also.
Mimi 2 keepers, a couple guys had 5, some 1 or 2 and several were skunked
Angler some guys had 1-3 but lots including me got skunked.
Still ain't seen this great fishing. Even the captains somewhat rosie reports don't sound that great.

8th trip today
NK3
about 40 fares. Saw one limit, a few had I or 2 but at least half including me got skunked. Saw the Dauntless fishing near us just south of inlet so you know ling fishing sucks. Captains reports are shall we say "stretching it"
When does fluke season start?

Captains are not stretching it I was out today as well with the same results as you. Do the math quite simple I got 2 shorts today no keepers but the boat had at least 40 keepers for at least 30 fisherman. Now go & do a charters math I would say the average charter average was just as close. Divide 6 into 40 & you got a limit plus. I'm not knocking party boat fishing but if the NK3 had 40 fares & everybody limited that would be 240 keepers:eek:. Try some charter fishing for Blackfish your chances of coming home with more Blackfish increases much more. As for Fluke fishing I'm glad it's over & when it opens up I'm happy because there are less people fishing for the ground fish I like to fish for.

I have had a fabulous year for tog. I've been on 8 trips and the only trip I didn't have a limit on I had 5. 4 of the trips I had a double limit and one almost a triple. I agree....if you want to increase your chances spend the extra cash and hop on a 6 pack. Even on the 6 packs... you need to have some skill as we all know tog are about the hardest fish to catch off of jersey!

Doug, did you hear about the constipated mathematician. He worked it out with a pencil. The ultimate result of these posts is that we are wasting our money togging on party boats.

That pencil has a eraser I fished on the OE plenty of times & did well & I was never in the mud. I just don't do well when there's a big crowd but some still do anyway. Look at the person who has been catching on those boats all of them they are doing something different then you. They can fish on any boat & do well every time look at the sharpies pay attention to what they are doing different then you. I have been fishing all my life for blackfish & I see it every trip?Monday one person got 7 keepers he was into fish all day long. A few others did well also I'm just not into moving around the boat all day long. But those who did caught fish & that's all the advice I'm willing to give at this time.
