guess we found out sunday why everyone is blackfishing. went for stripers. started trolling first with nothing found some birds and my friend got two shorts on shads (one close 27") the birds were so spread and moving so fast though we decided it was more efficient to troll around them and we had a pick of about 12 shorts up to 27.5" with no keepers.

i don't mind catching small stripers on light tackle with lures but when you have to troll them to get them to bite and they're all small, not really a lot of fun in my book so we're going to try to get one last trip in this friday before the boat needs to be pulled out of the marina to try for blackfish

I thought the "FUN" was in the catching, with the keeping and eating being an added bonus....Much agreed with the trolling though.....I enjoy sweetwater trolling but not so much in the salt.....Way to put a pattern together:)

i don't really like trolling in general. but when it's clearly the most efficient way to catch fish on a given day how do you resist haha. when i freshwater troll i usually hold the rod and jig it by hand to make it more enjoyable.

It's not the keeping and eating i'm looking for, it's just that when you're catching small fish with the trolling gear they just get horsed in pretty much and it's not as much fun as say casting lures at them with light tackle. That's all i'm saying.

I don't allow trolling gear on my boat  I would rather go to the dentist without novican and rinse my mouth out with acid :D but it sure does produce. Glad you caught though. Different strokes for different folks. But it's nice when you're catching
