Male black seadevils have a much shorter life span than females and are much tinier in comparison. Their sole purpose is to attach themselves to a female, living as a parasite. If they don't find a female, they drown, They're not even properly equipped to eat.

Never heard it called a sea devil..... I've only known it as an angler fish and I think there are quite a few sub species of this fish.....Too lazy to research it though.....I do think sea-devil is definatley a more appropriate name.....Prob one of the best addaptations in the sea, cool post:)

That's weird...just read about the angler fish tonight on AOL...there are more than 20 sub-species-had photos of some of them....the tiny male has to find and latch onto a female, then becomes nothing more than a set of gonads and produces sperm when she calls for it! Don't know how long he/it/they live like that... Hell of a life.....
