Not trying to be a d*ick here, and I know it's tough to measure a fish while its flopping around and your fingers are numb, but that last slime dart is 26.5". The nose is a .25" shy of the front of the tape when you zoom in and the top lobe of the tail seems to be a hair shy of the 7/8 line. Again, not trying to be a douche-bigelow. The contest is FUN first... Just offering up my nearly meaningless opinion :D:D:D

Wasn't going to say anything but now that you chimed in I'd have to say I agree. Tail is around 26.25-26.5 and the head isn't at the tip of the tape. Tail is pinched too. I'd say 26. Great pickerel but Dale's is definitely bigger.

Alright then, I guess the majority has spoken. I'm trying not to be too critical with anglers measurements but being as 2 guys have chimed in I guess I have to chop the Pickerel down a little bit. Let's keep it fair. There's more than one fish on this thread that can be chopped down.

i'm not in the contest, but i joked and said you guys need to make bumper boards the door prize! I've been thinking from the very beginning most of these fish measurements are off by at least a half inch! both bigger and smaller than actuality.

I've been doing online c&r contests for a while now and got pretty good at zooming in on the picture, using a straight edge and some simple math and getting a pretty near exact measurement of the fish. Since I don't personally know any of you guys in the contest and i'm not in the contest i'd be willing to give my opinion on the measurements of the top 5-6 fish if you want.

All around is some good fishing and some excellent fish porn we have.

Personally not entering anything until I pay up. That would be unfair to the rest of the gang.

On another hand everything I caught so far would be crushed by the numbers we have posted so at least that making me feel good.

I think February 26th or later is way too late to pay up and enter the tourney anyway Andre.

I was trying to take a quick pic before releasing it but what do you guys think in this picture? The head is right on 27 and the tape measure is slightly surpassing the tail. I understand if it needs to be shortened but maybe this picture is better?

Sandrider611
02-26-2015, 04:00 PM
I'll start with the disclaimer I'm not in the contest.. But with a straightedge on both ends, my call would be 26.5... With the tail at .5', and the mouth at 27.. None the less great fish... Just my $.02

I'm doing my best to keep this contest clean. What would the "KIDS" like me to do? I'll bring in another angler not involved in the contest to mediate, moderate the measurements. If this happens there will be quite a few changes in the LEADER BOARD!!!! I vote for this "SHUT UP AND FISH"!!!!! That may not be the right thing to say and I apologize! Lets get out there and get some entry's on the board before the contest ends.

That'd be a great NJF sticker... SHUT UP AND FISH! With an NJF logo...

I'm amped for tomorrow and the weekend... Hoping to see some toads on iceeeeeeee!

I kinda agree with Matt in regards to the entry fee and the ice contest.
Been bringing it up a few times already and..........
I suggest that ANYONE who has not paid yet be removed from the list....

IMO if one didn't make the effort by now to resolve this than it's really not that important to them and after several posts and tex"s and conversations they still haven't then there is absolutely 100% NO REASON why they should still even be on the contest roster!!!!

It's cool with me whatever your reason NO beef's about it either.
It is just a loose end that needs to be wrapped up...................

Chrisper4694
02-26-2015, 11:29 PM
Maybe what I'm about to say doesn't matter because I'm not doing the contest or maybe it does cause it's totally unbiased... Shut up and fish? Hell yeah have to agree, yet a contest is a contest. Whether it's for big money, small prizes, or just bragging rights; it's nothing if it's not fair, that goes for the entry fees and the measuring.

It's kind of messed up that Eddie kind of put the pay in on honor system and guys are taking advantage of it. Bow out if you haven't paid honestly it's the only respectful thing to do.

As for the fish measurements, I checked some of them and many were up to a quarter inch off, seems silly I know but hey a contest is a contest right. One guys 5" can't be another guys 4 3/4". For example sax matts pickerel is actually 1/8" bigger than he put it in as! Monster!

Anyway it has to be understood that no matter how close you look with the naked eye and try to line it up, you will never get that nose lined up with the zero mark. Make it easy next year and mandatory bumper boards for all!

saxmatt
02-27-2015, 12:33 AM
Good points, but the problem with bumper boards are not many guys have them, and it's a pain in the ass to carry a 50" bumper board to every flag you get. I've had fun doing this tourney, and I know others are having fun as well. Props to a Eddie for running it. You have to expect some problems running an ice tourney like this the first year, but I'm sure we'll work out the kinks if it becomes an annual tournament.

Chrisper4694
02-27-2015, 08:39 AM
i hear ya, but you can actually make a nifty folding one with corrugated plastic board cut in strip sections with a bumper board sticker along it and some clear packing tape over the sections and you can fold it up and it weighs nothing. or attach two small pieces of hard material, wood, metal whatever in and 'L' shape and just attach your measuring tape to it when you want to measure. as long as the fish nose and the measuring tape tip are bumped up against something straight it'd be better than eyeballing it you know what i mean.

next best would be to lay the fish down in the center of the measuring tape no where near the tip and just use a straight edge to figure out it's exact length.

so many things effect the length in a picture it's tough.

Hey man not to be a d*ck or anything but your fish also isn't what you claim it to be. The mouth is open and if you take a straight edge the tail is not at the 20 inch mark. This is just my opinion and I hope you dont take it the wrong way.

Alright guys let's try to keep it clean before it gets shut down. Name calling is not an option but it does happen. Trash talk is fine but let's not bring the contest down to other sites poor standards. The Pickerel thread is under review for those of you who aren't aware. I will post the numbers later. For now please stop the nonsense. I knew this was bound to happen and expected it. There's a lot of personalities on this board and it's been a long winter thus far. Let's take a chill pill, sit down and regroup. I'd really appreciate it. If this contest doesn't go well, we won't be able to have it annually.

For those if you that know me you should know I'm on a mission. It's not just about the fishing for me, it's about the brotherhood, the connection! If your mature and experienced in life you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I appreciate and enjoy every moment I'm out there with my BROTHERS no matter what may be going on in my personal life. I really hope you guys get it.

NJF FAMILY ALL DAY!!!!!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!!!!!

I think I have the green light for Sunday. Taking my 6 yr old step son out for his 1st ice experience! Temps are forecasted to be mild. Just gotta keep him warm and interested. Thermos of hot chocolate and hot hands in his boots and pockets should suffice. Hopefully I get a few hrs out of him! Dying to see him rip a fish thru the ice!

So yesterday was my 13th trip of the year there. It was raining and I was sitting in my car watching my tipups by the Riva ave cove. I thought today is my day, 13th trip, great pike weather...then 2 hours after I set up a water main broke right at the bridge and started spewing water 10' in the air. The water started flooding the road and the ice heading for one of my tipups. I had to call the cops, they showed up and closed the road. I had to pack up and leave. I think it's time for a new spot.

Ditto on that! You did a quality job organizing this contest, Eddie. I had a blast participating. Adding a touch of competition to anything always fires up my engine! Hopefully we get ice like this for years to come. I've been told, and do believe, that weather conditions like these are cyclical. If that's the case, we hypothetically should have a few more years of ice like we've had... Fingers crossed!

Really nice job running the contest, Very competitive and a little heated for a brief moment but we are all competitive and are all Brothers in NJF!!!!!
Nice to see some new guys on the Ice this year and always wonder to myself why more people don't ice fish!!!! And the contest only made it more fun!!!
I was glad to place in a least one category!!!
I primarily spent almost my entire ice season looking for the Beast Largemouth to win first but she never showed this season!
Tons of hours and locations on the lake covering some serious acreage and some of the finest shiners I could get!!!
So being able to nail three big Pickerel in one day to get on the board was a Great Feeling !!!!
Hope more of you guys take interest in it next year and we'll be glad to show you the ropes!!!!! FLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
