We had a good gang show up for opening day as is normally the case. Our first drop was the best with some shorts and keepers around the boat with the stern doing best. We made a lot of drops normally catching a few keepers when we stopped and then when we were going to move you would see a couple more making you wait to see if they would turn on. We ended up fishing late and had a good bite in the port bow to end the day. We had some nice fish on board but never enough for everyone.
They had a dollar pool for the first keeper which was won by Abe Beren from Staten Island. Eric who was fishing next to him almost had it with a 14 and 7/8 inch tog. I just couldn't stretch it. Abe ended up catching a bigger fish later that took the days big fish pool.
This weeks weather is looking pretty lousy with wind and freezing temps. We are not going to sail again till Friday. I don't want guys coming down and not having enough to sail.
Thanks captain George
