Capt. Bob took us to the Hudson East wall pot hopping for Mahi and every pot produced-second pot had a Longfin about 35#--Mahi 5-20# with mostly larger fish. Wind & seas as NOAA said with water about 78.
Ran to West wall to set up for the night but wind, seas didn't subside 'til morning but it did rain off/on lightly. Water about the same temp. First fish-LFT- in at 7:00 and thereafter a very slow pick until a flurry around daylight. We had squid-hundreds of 'em- off and on most of the night, free swimming Mahi, porpise, a Mola-mola and the inevitable blue dogs from time to time. Also had 5 released short swords and one big one which was lost after a half hour-was hooked up on 50# rig & line parted- my fault-missed a line chafe-not the way to find it!!! Wind/seas finally started to lay down a bit towards morning light. With nothing happening by 9AM,
we went back to the East wall for some tile/tuna fishing in improving weather, as was predicted, with several tiles and 1 Yellowfin-50# put in the box. Action died out so---
Back to the West wall around the Elbow to set up on some "structure" for tile/wreck/bottom/tuna fishing...unfortunately, wind started up again & had shifted so Bob had to hold our fishing platform over it. After 3 productive passes, we then---
went to the NOAA buoy for a last stop for Mahi, which produced a few, and finally home...
Totals: LFT's-9, 35-60#: YFT's-2, 35 & 50#: Mahi-Mahi-40-50, 5-20#(mostly larger)
Capt. Bob burned some fuel to make it a productive trip and it was! The crew, Second Capt./mate Todd, Chris, Al and chef/mate Tim, as usual, kept us happy & did their job expertly which is always appreciated.
Had a great group of guys on this trip-fished like a team!!!
Looking forward to next year--let's hope the wind stops!!!!!
