Everyone who bitched about that pic with the pile of bass on a headboat deck got their wish
we'll just have to take the sweet dock photo with only 1 huge breeder bass per guy now.. seems crazy.. how will we go on?!

Has anyone confirmed that this is NJ only or the whole coast? Hearing mixed info out there...
I haven't heard any confirmation yet but I truly wish they would leave the regulations the way they are at this point.
Let nature take it course, wipe 'em out and go on to the next species until they come back again in 10 or 20 years. This way I can go back to fishing in peace by myself from the jetty or beach and be happy when I get one or two keepers a year for the chowda!
Sick of the whole thing.

"nature" wont take its course if people put back the big bass... just because the limit is one bass over 28" doesnt mean you need to keep a 40" bass... its not like a 28" bass is a small fish. shake my head.

So is it official that you can only keep one bass??? And does this go into affect for the fall or starts next year

I was being sarcastic... I don't think you should kill any of those big ones and 1at 28in is enough given the huge increase in recreational fishing for them. It's supposed to be a game fish right?

one fish two fish, red fish, blue fish.... 125 plus tip and raw costs including food, fuel, ice, time, day off, misc bullshit, cheaper to go to the market... i do not personally give a shit what size you kill, i rather see 40inches and over, the 28" fish are the future, not the 50lb shit tasting cows that everyone holds up...

i'd rather eat the big ones though they have more flavor.

Exactly.... I see everywhere "let the breeders live!" (as in 25 lb fish +) but the fact is would humans be better if 20 year olds were scarce and we relied on 50 years old to repopulate? I understand it's not the exact same situation but it's similar and make sense. The cows only have so long to live anyways, let the 28 inch fish live as in a few years these fish turn into the cows and you get the prime breeder years...... Letting the cows live, and killing off the teens/young adults means a collapse in 4-7 years IMO.
As far as 1 fish goes, I mean, would I rather keep 2? Absolutely. But it'll be better for the fishery to keep 1 fish. As far as I'm concerned, I go out and pay my money to go fishing above all. I love the sport more then anything. If we could keep 0 or 100, it wouldn't change anything for me, I will still go out as much as I do because I'm in it to catch fish and be out there. Actually eating the fish is my last priority after everything, though I don't think everybody enjoys the sport as much as I do :)

Actually that makes no sense at all. Female Human beings for the most part are not able to reproduce after age 45 +/- a few years. Striped Bass will spawn until they die. A 60 lb bass will produce millions of eggs and will also pass her genes on to future generations.

Then we'll use a cutoff of 40 instead of 50, and how many of those eggs are actually healthy? Too annoying/time consuming to look into but I absolutely do not believe a 60 lb bass still breeds like she was in her prime. Why would a striped bass be the exception to every other animal on earth? Just doesn't add up to me. Not saying you're wrong at all I don't know the actual facts/physics it just don't make sense to me. Animals generally breed less and less until they can't anymore but fish breed more?

Striped bass have been weighed up to 125 lbs in the late 1800's. In recent times there has been a 90 plus caught in a net in chessie bay. World record is now 80 plus. With that being said not every bass is capable of reaching this size, but it is possible. A 50 lb. has always been the holy grail of bass fishing, but they get a heck of a lot bigger. Fish are much different then humans and most land animals..you can not think of them in the same terms. a 60 lb bass, 1,000 lb tuna etc, will still fight and f like a bastage. They continue to grow and breed until they die.

Big old cows don't go into "menopause".. They are prolific breeders, and they would live a LONG time if they weren't put under broilers or on top of a charcoal grill. They can live to be 30 years old.
The best way to have lots of stripers is to let the big breeders live.
A slot limit is the way to go. Do we REALLY need to eat 35- to 50 pound fish??..
If we REALLY must have *MEAT*!!, ling would be a much better alternative anyway, don't you think?... A little self control goes a long way..
Take a good size slot fish for the table, and then put on a hook with the barb crushed down a bit, and fight big stripers all day long,, Whats the big deal about the meat anyway?.. Isn't it about the fishing experience?.. Big stripers have an "oily burlap bag" taste IMHO..., I dunno, seeing big piles of a bloody, noble , very worthy game fish does nothing for me... I think in these days of packed head boats sailing day and night we can easily find ourselves us back to where we were in the 80's... Without a viable striper fishery..
Problem is, back then we had many other species as "backup".. Winter flounder, Whiting, Ling, all you can eat ..Tog, Weaks, Seabass too.. However we caught and ate too many of those as well, just as we are in danger of doing with stripers..
Humans can decimate anything. Hell we even got rid of eels, and thats something I NEVER could have imagined as a young man!..
Male stripers mature at two or three years.
Females first time to spawn is at five or six years.
It takes several years for spawning females to reach full productivity.
An average six year old female produces half a million eggs while a fifteen year old can produce three million.
The big old girls NEED to live... bob
