Well, we headed off shore on the V Tuesday around 7AM and finally hit the grounds by about 2PM- We hit a few pots for mahi and about 1/2 dozen were caught- that's it. Only fished for mahi about an hour.
We were fishing around the Lindy because the Hudson completely died after Friday's strong catch. Boats who fished the Hudson had less than 1/2 dozen fish Sat/Sat night, Sunday, Monday eve.
With that intel, our boat headed a bit south near the Lindy. One longfin was jigged around 5-6 PM, two were missed on a jig and that was it for the entire 30 hours outside of 3 small 30 lb swords. There was some squid around, but very little life out there. It looked dead. The water dropped to 66-67, and was not the best color- a steel gray. Conditions sucked too- wind against tide, boat swinging left to right for more than 1/2 of the night.
Many of us fished with live squid and nada, zip, zilch, zero. Some jigged for hours, again nothing ! Canyon season could be drawing to a quick close. It seems like for every 1 good trip we read about, there are 4 to 5 that suck. I talked to a few guys who have been on 4-5 trips this year and they could only recall 1 or so that was decent....
The fish were not even around at all- we marked them decently once through out the night- a mate said he saw about 6 on the screen and that was it. They never schooled under the boat at all- Heck, zero runoffs off too- cant blame those fishing. Can't catch when the tuna are not even there!
As usual, the crew on the V was awesome. They worked their butts off. :(
