What bait/lure /gulp is good for seabass this time of the year?

I am a very inexperienced angler. Thanks in advance for your help,

hi- lo rigs , 4 inch gulp mullets tipped with fresh clam strips works good

Hi low rig for sure is the best. Gulp is unnecessary and simply a waste of your money for Seabass. All you need is clams or squid for bait. Keep it simple and have fun!

I'm gonna go outta the box and give you something that most other advice will not get into: small eel bits, like leftover striper bait, stays on the hook well, don't need too much and they love the natural forage... Other than that, clams, squid, swimming mullet, diamond jigs, sandeels, spearing, killies, small mullet, peanut bunker, mussels , strip baits, and a lot of other bait, hi-lo rig or tip a spro like jig, many many ways to catch em, they will be all over the place till around October 17, then they get really hard to find ... Good luck , report back...

One other thing to mention here.... You are likley to to fishing around the sticky stuff like reef, rocks and rubble when fishing for Sea Bass.... Unlike Blackfishing, Sea Bass are very aggressive and will hit a moving bait up off the bottom. For this reason you can drift or anchor and you can keep your bait a few cranks up off the bottom to avoid getting snagged and loosing rigs.

And along with what Gerry said, if you're on a private boat and read fish on the machine up high, reel up 5-10 cranks, sometimes the bigger ones are off the bottom.
