I am going whiting fishing in NH next week. Never fished for whiting. How do I rig up for these guys. What kind of rod?

we used to use a 6 oz Bridgeport with 3 silver teasers.just jig it like your jigging mackerel.

Same rig like mackerel. Use silvers and golds and tip with bait if you like.

Be prepared for 10 - 16 oz. We started with 12. I used a 4 hook rig most of the day. First rig was triple surgeons knots to make loops. then cut one end of each loop & snelled the hooks. Second rig was dropper loops. I used 3/0 hooks, others on my trip used smaller. A few guys bought 8 hook Sabiki rigs from Kittery Trading Post & cut them in half to just use 4 or 5.

I experimented with Gulp, 4" pink, chartuse & nuclear chicken minnows & glow 3" shrimp. All worked, but bait did just as well. I wouldn't buy Gulp just for this trip, but if you have any left over, it doesn't hurt to bring. The Gulp held up well to the whiting's teeth. The rest liked the squid better than mackerel because it stayed on the hook better. (the Gulp stayed on very long too).

Great trip Steve. I posted a report on the Tuna report thread.
