Letter sent to Mike Waine, Fishery Management about the BS Striped Bass proposals.
If you give a crap about Striped Bass fishing at all and think you are gonna get screwed once again, then maybe read the proposals, and comment to Mike directly at mwaine@asmfc.org
E mails have to be in before the end of the Month......This effects the recreational fishermen as well as the guys in business, So it Ain't just about me folks!!!
Mike,
Just got back from a meeting among the last of us who are trying to survive the "Fishing Business". I gotta say (once again) we are pushed to the limit and have to make a choice, a choice that doesn't matter because, Not one of the proposals on Striped Bass will keep us in business.....I have played by the rules for 37 years, when we had a limit of 1 Striped Bass at 28' and a second fish at 32' several years ago, (plus a slot bonus fish), I was educating my customers on how we could throw those breeders back, take a picture and catch the smaller bonus fish. A whole season of doing this and the customers agreed, we thought we were saving the future.
Now, I am going to be forced (if lucky enough) to kill 36 inch Breeding Class fish if the one choice I have to survive is implemented.!
The Larger Breeding fish go through hell in the process of being caught yet, we do everything in our power to revive those fish and set them free, only when they can swim away. Why not take Breeding fish out of the equation? Doesn't make sense does it?
The Magnuson states that economic hardship can not be taken into consideration when making these rules.....guess that really works in the favor of the powers that be now, right?
My vote is status quo on two fish at 28 inches, I'm sure, I'll have to pay for the consequences down the road.
If I am forced to make a choice to hopefully survive, than I'll take B7, reluctantly and with much duress.
Sincerely, and totally pissed off!
Capt. Ron
