After checking our log book from past seasons, we hoped to pull a rabbit out of our hats by trolling some local stripers from the "Rocks". We found several small flocks of birds and thought it would be game on. All we found were blues up to about 2 lbs. with a few false albacore mixed in. A few groups of fish were in close enough for surfcasters but not for long. We switched to jigs and landed and released some knucklehead seabass, false albacore, bluefish, and one 5 pound fluke which quickly went on ice. Back on the troll, we could only find the same cocktail blues that have been around for awhile. The few bluefish boats which were there scattered and then left. The ocean started to settle down but we never found a striper. We did see a whale spouting and lots and lots of bunkers. The beach by the swim club in Monmouth Beach, where they are pumping sand (from the Shrewsbury River) is a mess, but there is enough beach there for the fall run. I hope this report helps someone find some fish this week. By the way, very few boats were out and no fluke boats were down the beach.
