Always a heartbreaking week. I post this with the hope we never stop honoring the great men and women who answered the call that day and all the innocent lives. We lost so many. Bless the ones who did not come back.

RIP Laura, Jimmy, Andrew, Keith, Jeff
NEVER FORGET

This is a difficult day for me - I'm a WTC survivor who got out 15 minutes before my building tumbled.

I always struggle on this sad day but knew that my daughter would be calling me, as she does on every Sept 11th. I just got off the phone with her, saw this post and now I feel better. I was spared and consider every day a blessing - never forget !!

Seems like yesterday to me yet there are many younger people who did not witness this and are now reading about it in text books. It's not pleasant talking about 9/11 to your kids or grandkids, it is however our duty as adults to educate them and text books are not enough.

Never let them forget:
- The innocent people that were killed for just being at work or on a plane and the lasting effects it had on their friends and family.
- The first responders who were running into buildings that people were running out of
- The terrorist group who was responsible because we need to remain vigilant in our pursuit of them and all others like them or it will happen again
- How it made us put aside all our differences and united everyone in this great country of ours.

I've never seen so many American flags in my life. Sadly, most of those flags have been put away... Going to take mine out of the garage and hang it out right now.

I've had friends from all over the world ask what the day was like and how living in the area feels. The whole area changed forever on this day many years ago-there is a void that will always be felt.

We're still with you Chris. And everyone else as well.

13 years ago today, I sat in my office at 383 Madison. I had arrived early that day, around 7:00am, as I was a project manager for the IT infrastructure of the building, which was still under construction. At 8:50, one of my guys ran into my office, saying a plane had crashed into North Tower. We had no idea of the true scope of the tragedy at that point. As I mentioned, the building was under construction, so we went to the roof of the building (47 stories, approximately 750 feet up...offered a great view of lower Manhattan). Just minutes after we got up there, the second plane hit the South Tower.

We stood up there until after the towers collapsed, knowing we were helpless to do anything at the time. Having worked in the Wall St. world for 27 years, I had and have friends and acquaintances through-out the various financial firms. I lost many friends that day.

Mike Gogliormella and his wife had recently had their first child, she was 3 months old.

Don Tuzio had recently been laid-off and went to World Trade that day to participate in a Job-finding workshop that was part of his severance package.

There are many more that are worthy of mention, but I don't want to fill this post with a role call.

I still miss these people, my life has become smaller without their presence. I find these anniversaries to be particularly challenging days for me.

I pray Mike, Don and all of the victims, both deceased and living, of this horrific act find peace.

Thanks for all the posts. Not looking to turn this political just found it interesting after our current President was so proud of pulling troops and now we haveISIS running wild.

I guess W took the time to sit with his advisors.

Everyones so patriotic this week. Flags hanging on every other house but come the weekend they all come down.
Its not flag day, its AMERICA and your flag should be flown every day not just today.
**** those terrorists.

I think we have a very unique position living so close to where the towers were. I think because I saw them so many times that I miss them more than maybe people outside of the metro area or who hadn't visited NY beforehand. That day also hits home here since so many people knew people who were directly affected by the Towers falling.

I take the trip to different locations every year to photograph the lights. I've been on top of the Empire State Building, on the parking deck with the actually lights, at Ground Zero, in Liberty State Park and the Teardrop Memorial in Bayonne. It is always such a solemn and sobering night. There generally is no laughing in the crowds and people seem to be enjoying each others' company more than usual. This is the first time in 6 years I won't be headed to the area to shoot the lights due to my schedule but next year I will be at the Brooklyn waterfront to photograph the lights. Having been so close to Ground Zero on the anniversary a few times, it almost feels like you aren't on this earth and it is very surreal and almost haunting. As a teacher I show my photos every year to the students to keep them remembering the event and to not forget what happened.

Here's the photos from the parking deck with the lights - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150303161327459.365789.542817458&type=1&l=bfdf77b06c

And photos from the Empire State Building and near Ground Zero - The white specks in the lights are birds but they looked like spirits diving and through the beams of light. - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.432820672458.242497.542817458&type=1&l=3960fdc2d2
