Started off at the dock with a fair pick on stripers. Caught 3, 2 on a microlight rod. Went out with a small crew. Conditions were sporty but there were fish to be caught. Anchoring conditions were tough, but if you could mind your line, you caught. We had a good pick of ling in the deep. We had some flounder and I had a 1 1/2lb lobster.

Captain decided to move shallower and on the way in We stopped at a floating barrel. I had a 4lb mahi on my microlight rod that spit the hook at the net. Our stop inshore found the motherload of 12"-15" banded rudderfish. A few triggers and some very nice out of season sea bass were caught here. The rudders came up shallow enough to catch one on my 1/8oz bucktail on the little rod.

I wound up with the lobster, 40 ling, a four spot and 16 rudderfish. Pool was a flounder of around 4lbs. Most people had around 8-15 ling and 6-10 rudderfish. Some inexperienced people out today as all the heavy hitters went yesterday..*LOL*.

Sorry, but what is a rudderfish? Can you eat them? I love your reports on the Monday trip. 40 ling is awesome.

It's a type of jack. Like all members of this family, they pull really hard. They are decent eating, a little better than a snapper blue or weakfish. As for my cooler, I kept 6 ling and the lobster and donated the rest to others and the hungry captain.

we caught about 6 or 7 dif jack species last week. the banded rudders & pilotfsh were both excellent tablefare but there were a few that tasted weird to me, just not sure what kind they were lol

I haven't eaten one in twenty years, but I remember liking them. It looks like porgy meat.

I didn't care. He was beaten and I got what I wanted out of him. I wanted some pullage on the ultralite and got it yesterday.
