Wife and I are relatively new to boating/fishing, we've got a boat docked at 24x7 in Somerspoint at the moment. We want to be able to take the boat out and do a little fishing, we don't care what we catch really, just for fun and stuff.

We try to explore as much as possible, from the dock, we've gone up towards the bargaintown pond, but the water and channel just gets too narrow and shadow there, so our other option is to turn toward the bay. But there doesn't seem to be anything to catch at least until we get out towards that open drawbridge (is it Breezly point?). We always go midday when the sun is beating hot, so maybe we're going at the wrong time? Also the water can get pretty choppy out in the bay and as beginner boater we aren't very comfortable there.

Are there any other spots you recommend? I'm considering changing marina, so I can be closer to other fishing spots. 24x7 is just way too far up the creek, but they are cheap though.

i dont know much about the area you've been fishing but i know where that marina is, you might be able to find some perch and little stripers, look for creek mouths, holes and choke points, usually low tide is best for those type of areas, or try some crabbing, the draw bridge is Beesleys Point, I haven't fished there much but I've heard it can be very good certain times of year

I mostly fish further out in Great Egg Harbor Bay, fluke fishin was pretty good there earlier this year and right now theres lots of croakers and blues around, depending on the size of your boat you might want to look for a slip a little closer to the bay

I know where you're at and yeah, it's pretty far up the creek. Convenient to the bait store thou. I keep my boat in Strathmere at a private dock where i was lucky to find an open slip. If Strathmere isn't too far, you may want to consider Whale Creek Marina - again you'll be up a creek but it's a much shorter one than Patcong. Have you considered All Seasons marina in Marmora? What about Brennans in Somers Point?

The good thing about the marina at 24x7 is it's only couple miles from me (Egg Harbor Twp), and they only charge $600-800, that's unbeatable prices. But it cost me at least $10 in gas to go out to the bay, plus the time to get out there. I like the idea of marinas on Bay Ave. It's only a little further driving wise, but so much shorter boat ride to the bay. I think I'll make some calls tomorrow and ask how much they cost.
