Fished aboard the Angler today with a super lite crowd and man did the weatherman blow it again. Beautiful day on the water with drop and reel fluking. Had the entire stern to myself lol.

Perhaps you had some shelter from the hook? Couple other party boats even mention there was a "pretty large heave" until late morning, which turned the fishing off...

I was out today on a private boat & it was very windy. We got our butt's kicked tackle box's flying etc. We also caught a lot of drop reel shorts but we did manage a keeper though. I feel for the private boat owners it was not worth it by any standards for them. I need Advil right now you were on a big boat a big difference with a great capt & crew. Conditions may have been good for you but it wasn't for us. We fished everywhere from Hoffman's to the hook & it was never nice at all from 7 AM to 2pm.

Due to the angle of the southeast swell from hurricane cristobal, the large swell doesn't make it into that sandy hook area. The swell might be 10 ft in manasquan & only 3ft in sandy hook. All related to "corner of land" made between sandy hook & Long Island.

NJBILLFISH you haven't a clue. We fished in the ocean 2 miles off the beach and there was no swell. Last night I posted the following. The weatherman is killing the shore with his BS about dangerous ground swells. We had much worse seas last week than today. NW winds for tomorrow should be ideal. This is the fishing we wait for all year.

I knew where the fish were and I also knew that wind against the tide is ideal conditions. The fishing couldn't be better. If you fished on a boat that had big swells today you belong with njbillfish for you also don't have a clue.

That 10' swell was about 30 seconds apart and spread out -- truly LONG PERIOD not even close to being a heave...

I was out on a NS out of PP yesterday and there was definitely a pretty good swell early in the morning. Had a few chummers on board due to it but I wouldn't say it was huge. It layed down late morning and turned out to be a real nice afternoon. Sandy Hook definitely provide some protection from a swell coming from the SE so it makes sense that the Raritan wouldn't be too bad.

---and regarding my post.....i commented that with a long period groudswell (from a storm several hundred miles off our coast), that groundswell is much bigger to the south (ie manasquan) & smaller to the north (ie sandy hook or sea bright). this is a fact jack! it is related to the phenomenon of refraction. the north jersey coastline & western end of long island form "a sort of corner." with a long period swell, that swell (and its energy) is refracted as it works its way into that "corner" and up towards sandy hook (nj) & long beach (ny). ask anyone who surfs.... with a long period groundswell, the surf will be 12 ft in Seaside, 10 ft in Manasquan, 8 ft in asbury park, 6 ft in long branch & 3 ft in sandy hook. likewise the surf out east on long island in montauk will be big, 12 ft and that surf will get progressively smaller as you work your way back west on long island. all of this is related to refraction with a long period groundswell. this phenomenon doesnt happen so much with a short period windswell. now, to criticize me when you dont even understand this process is just silly.

Dude, you are confusing the issue with too many facts. Don't you know meteorology is practically Satanic on this site? God forbid anyone check the weather before going fishing. Much better to listen to a sponsor here if you want to know what's *really* going on with the wind and seas. :rolleyes:

I agree with what you have said to a point, but regardless of who you are site sponsor or not that does not make anyone`s opinion more valid than someone else s. There is definitely a right way to make a point without being demeaning. Everyone, present company included, should lighten up at times. If you chase away the non sponsor/little guy a great site like this is not worth much. Just my opinion.
