Well one out of two ain't bad ;)

Fished yesterday with Brother Joe, Left Reeler and Shrimpman. The plan was to leave early, troll and or pot some Mahi at the closer in Mudhole spots and then switch over to Fluking.

Winds were predicted to be out of the west in the AM but it was pretty much SE all morning. So, we decided to run as far to the SE as we intended and troll our way north and west throught pots since it was a bit too rough to do any potting.

Our trolling experience was too funny, kinda like a 3 Stooges episode. Should have taken a picuture of our ghetto assortment of rods and reels we pieced together for our trolling spread, most of which had been laying around in my garage for 20 years.

We had one mystery run off on the way back line and then a False Alby, but that was it.

One of the rods gave us a few chuckles.... I went to grab the line to put it back in the out rigger clip and snapped the last foot of the pole off. Decided to stick with it that way and went back to trolling. Drag on this pole and the rigger clip must have been set a little too tight. A few minutes later I turn my head to see the same pole dancing outside the boat and hanging from the outside rigger clip. After that we just looked at eachother, broke out laughing and said lets go Fluking....

Made the move inshore and had some decent action Fluking.... Lefty and Steve did well, me and Joe, lets just say it was not our day  I think we had 5 or six keepers and probably twice as many shorts. Lefty also managed a nice Seabass.

Fun trip though and a lot of laughs. Best line of the day....

running out saturday Gerry...how was the water out there? heard of some good water in the mud hole past few days with a lot of life. few weeks back had a bunch of life just SE of the BA buoy...not sure if i wanna push off a little further with the weather window or just stay close again to try trolling and maybe some sharking if we see any finning like last time

No real temp breaks, pretty much 75 ish everywhere we went.

Did see a whale closer to the BA but nothing after that except for a turtle when we were on the east side of the Mudhole further south. That water seemed a lot cleaner on the east side, however there we a lot more pots and grass on the west side. If you are looking for a shorter run and are targeting Mahi I would stick with the west side.

Good luck.

That is some funny stuff!!! Sometimes trips are memorable because of the fish, and sometimes its because its just plain fun!! Im picturing that rod just hanging off the clip and cant stop laughing, I can only imagine what it was like on the boat:eek:

Top ten funniest trips I have ever been on! I was at the wheel when I heard the commotion in the cockpit, I turned around and saw nothing but a dancing rod in mid air:eek: I thought it was bewitched! Funny funny shyte!

You need thick skin with this crew, as the verbal jabs were hilarious as well as ceaseless! Great crew great fun. As Gerry said, the trolling was lackluster but the fluking was good (for some of us:rolleyes:). We're still trying to figure out who's idea it was to go offshore for mahi. Gerry?

Thanks for the invite guys.
$125 a head for bait, ice, fuel and incidentals.
A picture of that dancing rod in my head forever, priceless! (Watching Gerry turn a one peice rod into a two peice was funny as well)

A LAB throw back Thursday....

Things I learned on this trip :

1) Choose your crew wisely... No night before hang overs or family members ;)
2) Make sure your trolling rods and reels are in good working order. A "hmm this looks OK" when you are in a dark garage the night before does not qualify as making sure of this.
3) Do not turn what started out to be a simple Fluke trip into anything other then a simple Fluke trip. If things go bad your crew will turn on you and ride you like a broken bike.
4) Do not put the Spreader Bar that you borrowed from a friend on rod with the reel that the clicker does not work on and tighten down the drag.
5) Do not drive over any weeds when the guy working the cockpit is pissed that you hijacked him offshore in the first place and now he has to clear the lines of weeds.
6) Do not let the angriest person on the boat drive the boat.
7) Make sure to let everyone know what time their wives should expect them back this way they can correctly level set expectations.
8) Never ever take yourself so serious that you cant laugh at yourself along with others.
9) Fish or not, laughter can be the difference between a good trip and a great trip.

10) be careful, there's a knife in the bucket:D

Thanks again for a trip I'll never forget!

Great to see you guys had a good time and could laugh about the mishaps.
I am sure a few miller lights were consumed in the process.

Things I learned on the trip. If you want to go and do that kind of fishing charter a boat.
Lefty has no clue how to clean fish :)
Don't get caught up in the excitement of the thought. There is always a different reality.
Just because you have a captains lic doesn't mean you have any idea of what you are doing
Don't let your ******* brother set out the spreaders
I can't fluke fish for shit
Buy stocks in Spro before Joey the fishing
Always bring a BMFH out fishin
After you get your first run of set the hook and get a few reels on the fish don't hand it off to Shrimpy
The grandma pole Shrimpy has is the lucky rod
Last but not least never allow yourself to be talked in to doing this again!!!!
But man my stomach still hurts from laughing. I will never forget the sight of the pole butt dangling then plunk.
