Plan was to hit a party boat for some fluke fishing, the strong ENE wind had different plans. I opted to hit the bay instead of drag 12oz+ of lead all day. My decisions paid off.
6:30 spot 1 ( close to inlet ) - quickly sabikied a snapper and sent him out on a 1/4oz jig head. Shortly later was greeted with a nice bay fluke at 19.5 fluke. Caught a few more snappers that were all mauled by short fluke.
7:30 still spot 1 - changed gear and decided to use some of the fluke belly i defrosted for a potential boat trip. Through on a 7" strip on a 1/4th oz jig head and attached a stinger hook. On my first cast landed another 19.5" that hit and fought like a 5lber. Dicked around with shorts for another hour or so and made a move to follow the tide.
9 spot 2 ( near 35 bridge ) - picked up my big bro to get in on the fishing that was decent. Set up a dead stick rod with a live snapper on a fish finder while using ultra light jigs on my others. For the next hour my brother and I caught about 20 shorts and added another 2 18" keepers on live snappers.
11am - get really board with short fluke and decide to try a gulp sandworm. Positioned my cast near a piling and caught a nice verity of fish. Croaker, king fishing, baby porgie, baby seadbass, and a 1 eyed black fish. When reeling in something tiny I was stopped dead on my tracks by a much much larger fish, assuming he ambushed whatever I hooked, sadly the small hook I was using didn't connect :(.
Over all pretty solid morning for bay fishing, 4 keepers, 30 or so shorts, and a verity of light action fishies.
Next weekend it's off to the canyons for trip 1 of the season with a report to follow.
Tight lines.
