My neighbor invited me and said we might try to troll up some Mahi and then go fluke fishing on his bigger boat. So I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Met him for breakfast at the cottage in PPB then off to the boat.

Little did I know we stopped 6 miles out of the inlet and started trolling. Had a couple of small knock downs, landed a small mahi (I mean small) and let him go followed by a bonito that we ate as we cleaned the boat.

The hit the fluke grounds for the BEST FLUKING I have seen this year. Dropped down first time and hit him on the head. Keeper #1 in the boat. We made 4 drifts and had 9 keepers. I had my limit to 25 inches, 1 sundial and countless shorts.

My neighbor even kept a skate and cut the wings.

Tight lines and be safe.

Just curious what you guys did with the skate you kept in the picture. I've heard some people punch out the wings which supposed to resemble scallops but never knew of anyone who actually tried it. Curious if you ate it and if so what it was like.

Imo Skate wings taste better than fluke, especially smoked

I think that's a rumor. There is cartilage that runs thru the wing. I have eaten it did not care for it. I used to think the same thing about the scallops but I don't think it is true. At least with the skates we catch here.

He cut the wings, meat was white but couldn't fillet it b/c nerves from fish made it keep curling. He was going to fillet it. I will ask him how it was.

I have seen it on a menu in Florida but as said think it is different than the ones we catch. If it is good I will be skate fishing =-0
