We caught several spiny dogfish while fluke fishing on Sunday. Watch out for them and know the difference between a smooth dogfish and a spiny one before you grab them or you might get a painful lesson. Look for the spots on the spiny dogfish. The smooth dogfish does not have them. You'll see the thornlike spikes on the back of the spiny dogfish. Beware of them. The fish we caught were small and probably born this year, but they still had those sharp spines. What in the world are they doing along the beaches at this time of the year anyhow?
