Saturday afternoon was our 3rd Annual Company fishing trip aboard the Capt. Cal II with Capt. Ron at the helm. Made a decision day before to change it up and go bottom fishing, it was the right choice.
Took a long ride, got set up and instantly had good action around the boat. Elis & I started putting some nice Ling on ice. Capt said pull up, just going to make a little adjustment. Had Elis cast under the boat(had a haunch), she gets a good hit, see her Fish Poison rod which was custom made by Kevin Bogan, digging and thumping all the way up from 120'. Look down, see an awesome winter flounder, over the rail and slammed to the deck. Bait up, right back down, under the boat, wham, slammed again. Watching the pole, I'm thinking tog. Moments later, look down, Cod. Knew it was a keeper. Swung it right up and over. No need to measure. I was lucky to add a couple winter flounder to the slush. Capt. Ron went way out of his way. We took a long ride and set up on another piece, proceeded to add more meat in the cooler. Keep up out and extra 1-1/2 hours. Mates Brian and Jimmy were top notch and on their game, especially helping unhooking those pesky federally protected pout. Awesome trip, everybody went home with some meat. Elis got her first Winter Flounder, a good 4 pounder, her first ever Cod, which turned out to be the money fish. At the end of the evening, our cooler has a nice mix of mixed sized Ling, a few winter flounder and a cod. Everybody at work is still talking about the trip. Makes me feel good. Many laughs shared by all. Super time.
Thanks all for going and a special thank you to Capt. Ron and Brian and Jimmy. See ya next year!
