With all the travel I had planned this year, didn't think I would make it to the Block this year, but then a window of opportunity...

Had a conference in Newport, RI for a week so a plan was hatched...Catch the Ferry, fish all night long, sleep on the beach a few hours, return to the main land on the ferry and attend my conference.

Last weekend it all came together, man it was a long walk to the spot from the ferry carrying my gear:eek:

Fished from dusk till dawn and managed 7 stripers from rats (~ 18 in) up to a respectable 34 in fish (2X), 3 cocktail blues, a a few bite-offs. Overall a slow night, but a night on the Block, sleeping on the beach in the morning, and a great memory was worth the ~$50 ferry trip and parking fee.

Love fishing off block, but I always steam there from the tauk:cool:

I will be back out there next week.

We use to take a boat over there regularly in the 70/ 80's ! Fish Tuna in the hole & spring flounder ! Last USATT was held there & I may have caught the last Gt in that event.
In those days a mere 30 mile run to south put u in reach of decent offshore grounds !
Superb lay over for Tuna without having to go back to thr PT. If I remember corectly 16 fresh ponds & many pheasant call this part of Rhoddy home.
Cant wait to get back next month for a LR 3 dayer trip on VS ! Some of the best offshore flukin & cod off the big bank.:cool:

Props for making that happen! So often it's just as much about the adventure of getting there.
