Headed out on the monger yesterday with a crew for the ages, Besides myself, PUOSU 1 champion Scooting Scotty, Lenny Ragusa, Piney Vince now known as "The Directa" we welcomed 7 newcomers to Monger nation. We brought Pennypack legends the skipper, Mrs. H, Bad Bob, Betty & Joe & one of my oldest homies board op nick. Also aboard was my gf Jen for her first saltwater trip.
Got to the dock no wind at all I have never seen that as I'm used to 15-25 on good days! decided to look for sea bass locally & had decent pick at them & some mountain trout. All the sea bass were either 8 inches or JUMBO! Crazy the size of the sea bass inshore this year just the #s are lacking :( . by about 10:30 we had 50 jumbo biscuits & 40 trout & a silver for the grill, a throwback fluke, throwback togs,bergalls,2 robins so we all agreed to take a ride to the deep see whats going on.
got set up in about 105 feet had drop & reel pout which were released thanks federal gov't jerkoffs i woulda made the biggest pot of summer chowdah philly ever saw! bounced around for about 25 minutes til we found the mother load of drop & reel breeder mountain trout fishing. this was supplemented by the biggest winter flounder i ever saw with a few being over 4lbs on the scale! put 160 ling,15 floundah,2 ravens in the boat, tossed back 200 pout,a baby pollock & a lone juvenile tog.
back at the dock final tally was 200 ling, 50 sea bass, 15 floundah,2 ravens,2 robins,1 silver eel, 5 bergalls all deceased. we caught i believe 13 species today which is why i love bottom fishing so much ya never know whats gonna come up! Everyone got a ton of meat for the freezer!
As for the crew Nathaniel was just amazing especially with the monger virgins helping them at all times, we also had special guest Dirty Darren aboard who helped show the newbies the art of getting out of a wreck while Nathaniel was busy somewhere on that ginormous boat its like exercise walking across that thing! As for Captain Hank nothing else can be said he continues to show why he is the best as he sat at the throttle all day as we power drifted to keep us over prime real estate & burning fuel literally the entire trip. Some boats woulda sat on the 1st piece we fished for 2 hours & picked fish but Hanky boy took off as soon as the keepers stopped coming. The laughs were non stop & 7 new members have joined monger nation.
oh & we got to the dock at like 3 & were filleting til 6.................
CUE DA HATE!
