My buddy that I fish with (although not often enough) is a chemist at rutgers, over the past few years he's had problems with his outboards not getting the rpm's they should be getting. He's pulled the various screens out of his engines (even the one that's buried way inside) and analyzed the film on the screens using mass spectrometry and found that the film is what he calls an alcohol varnish. WHen he cleans all those screens out and a few other things (sorry I'm a mechanic misfit) his engines are fine, until the next season. He's had boats for years and never had this problem until the last 6 years or so (he has twin honda's, but I'm sure it happens in all marine engines).

I swear its a killer , any gas that u need to put a stabilizer in just to make it a week is garbage , the government told us that by adding alcohol in the fuel it would lower our prices ! I havent seen a dramatic fuel price drop have u ? They just raise it and now we pay more for corn off the cobb , wtf ...my boat with fresh gas and stabil runs like a charms ....96merc 225 efi with i dont even know how many hours but alot ....as soon as i let the boat sit a few weeks with no stabil ...runs erratic, spits coughs sneeezes and farts ....and sounds like it wants to throw up! It it rediculous .....i hate our government....and all their bullshit lies in misleading the american people into a crappy way of life

Is gasoline without ethanol available anywhere in New Jersey?
Many service stations in Florida have non-ethanol gas available near marinas.

No places I know of in NJ selling non ethanol fuel. Last time I got some was in PA. The Premium fuel in this one gas station had it. All other grades contained ethanol.

Dont think so , just valvtech with stabilzer additives mixed in

Even it were cheaper, you still need more of it to create the same amount of energy. When phase separation begins, the octane value also decreases. I just drained my tank completely and there was quite a bit of water mixed in even though i treat the gas everytime i fill up. Im not impressed with stabil so im now using valve tech treatment as well as a higher octane gas. I have a habit of topping off the tank everytime i go out and i believe this was part of the problem. Im gonna start running the tank down further to ensure a more constant flow of fresh fuel. On a side note, i also seafoamed my engine after draining the fuel and that stuff really seems to work. There was a noticeable improvement right off the bat.

There is a new product out that claims to remove ethanol from your fuel called eco fuel saver. Look for it at your local shop. I have seen it by me on 36.

Out here in Cleveland Ohio area , you can find non-ethanol gas seasonally, cost about a buck more a gallon. It is money well spent !! I paid 4.65 per gallon last week. I did a google search and it told me where I can find it etc.

I've posted this before...wait until E15 comes around...and it will. If you think this version of ethanol fuel is bad the next generation is 10X worse.

I've been using Sta-bil ethanol treatment for 2 seasons and so far (knock on wood) problem free.... although I am an absolute nut when it comes to changing the myriad of fuel filters I have.
