Little more to say than it was a great day. We left the dock at 5 am with the crew consisting of John, Alex, my girlfriend Amy, and me with Captain Rich at the helm. Made a left out of the inlet and we were surprised by the lack of bait on the surface. After 15 or so minutes I spotted a small school and Rich did a phenomenal job throwing the net. One throw of the net and we filled the live well with over 100 pieces of bunker. We went looking but there wasn't many signs of life so we made a quick run up the line and put the baits in the water. Within 5 minutes 2 of the baits were being attacked and we were tight! The first 3 fish to the boat were all between 35-42# on the boga. It was a steady pick with a few more fish being landed, but it died out so we went further up the beach and put the baits in the water again. it was about 1/2 an hour before we got our next bite. I made quick work of the 25# on my Hanta Kanpachi 76F and we waited a while longer. Just as we were thinking about moving Alex's bait gets attacked and he comes tight. we look at the machine and its lit up like a Christmas tree. For the next 40 minutes it was 3-4 on at all times. The bass were fighting over our baits. At one point Amy tossed her bait in and as it hit the water a bass inhaled it!
Thanks again Capt Rich for a great day! We ended with well over 20 keeper bass keeping 5 for the table that were gut hooked for the four of us with most of the fish between 25-30# and a couple larger with the biggest going 42#. We also made a quick stop on some bluefish marks on the way in and popped up a bunch of cocktails. I got to put my new Hanta Kanpachi 76F through the paces landing 4 bass up to 30# and a bunch of blues with ease. It is quickly becoming my favorite inshore all purpose spinning rods. Last weekend I also bucktailed up a few fluke to 4.5# with it.
Me holding Amy's first ever striper about 35#
