We are going to be in Corolla, North Carolina for Memorial Day week. I was wondering if anyone here ever surf fished that area and could give me an idea of what to be prepared for?

Stayed in Corolla 3 times - all in July - basically from the surf out front there I caught mostly croaker ..... and a few small blue fish. If you hit the fishing pier you may get into some more species, and if you make the very long trek to Oregon Inlet the fishing will be much better, but that is a haul that you probably won't be doing after the drive to Corolla ....

Never fished NC surf but usually fish Ocean City, MD surf Memorial day and labor day. Like Canyonfish mentioned... you should expect to catch croakers and snappers and the pesty sand sharks and skates this time of the year. Maybe a "flounder" or 2 if its warm enough. I would rig smaller hooks top and bottom with floats on the hooks. that's what I do in OC MD. Never had any luck down there with poppers so grab some squid or worms for the croakers and flounder or some mullet for the blues on a mullet rig.
Sorry can't help specifically for Corona. Enjoy your trip!

Spot, croaker, and kingfish. Sometimes snappers. Hi/lo rig with shrimp. Nice blue claws on the sound side.
