Hey All,
First timer targeting stripers from a party boat. I'm putting together a checklist of tackle I should bring. Any suggestions/tips would be great. I'll have two set-ups with me (1) conventional, Avet MXJ 5.8 spooled with 50lb braid on a Fish Poison cod/all-purpose bottom fishing rod and (2) spinning, Penn Battle 4000 spooled with 30 lb braid on a Tsunami Airwave.
Any and all tips are appreciated re: leader length and weight, types of sinkers/rigs, hook size, jig size etc.
Thanks!
Ol Pedro

First , make sure that you can use braid on the boat that you choose. I just use 30 lb and 40 lb mono. Get some snaggers for Bunker and use your spinning set up for snagging. Have some large bait holder hooks for clamming along with some fish finder or large egg sinkers and swivels.

Many party boats do not permit you to use braid so I agree 100% with Ol Pedro to double check before you get there and have to swap out your line.

Get rid of the braid, you wont make any friends when you get tangled up.I use 20# on one setup and 25# on the other both are spinning reels I can cast far away from the boat. I use 30# fluoro for the leader don't make the leader to long it will cast better 26'' works good, 6/0 bait holder hooks and a fishfinder rig. Bank sinkers depending on depth and current. This is my clam setup

Thanks guys for the tips. My first time party boat striper fishing couldn't have gone any better. Got my limit, with the bigger fish at 25lbs+.

Nice work! Clamming for bass is def one fishery where the KISS principle couldn't apply any more!
