Bunker off Point Pleasant

I was working last night on Martells Tiki bar's roof and noticed a huge school of bunker stretching from the beach to a mile out. A bunker boat came in from the east and trauled down the whole school coming within 100 yds of the beach.
Is that legal? I thought they were supposed to stay 3 miles out? I took some pictures with my iphone just in cae.

Not sure but I think it's OK for bait boats to come in that close... I believe it's the reduction boats that have to stay out of the 3 mile line.

Great can't wait for another year of finding the fish only to have the bunker boats come in and kill it

"Bunker" boats don't trawl. They set purse seines with the assistance of a smaller skiff. Maybe if you post the photo then we can give you confirmation of what was happening out there. I'm not saying they were not a fishing boat but they may have been doing something else.

In addition if they were setting nets for Bunker they should have been identified with large mounted "B" much like this boat.

and the second attachment is the Research Vessel "Seawolf" from Stony Brook University that conducts the NJ inshore groundfish survey several times a year.
