When using braid for fluke, do you guys use leader line,if so what kind,lb.test, fluoro.? I don't know how good they can see.I was thinking of using 20lb. fluoro.

I use 20,25 & 30 lb in both flouro and reg mono ...depends on depth fishing and water clarity

You don't need flouro.

I use 30 pound fluorocarbon leader when fluke fishing and have had much success with it. It's virtually invisible under water for fish that are line shy.

For the ocean, I use 25lb mono for the topshot and leader. But use 20lb florocarbon for the trailer hook.
For the bay, I use 15lb Floro for the whole rig.

Fluke are not line shy...Mono is just fine and a top shot of 3 foot is about the right length. Any quality mono like big game or ande will do.
I scale the mono to the braid i'm using..in waters like the shrewsbury area or sandy hook reef i use 25 lb. with 15 lb braid.
deeper water i up the mono to 30 and up the braid to 20 lb test.
no swivels --tie the double uni , power pro knot, or the bristol

I would use 30 used to use 25 hooked a big fluke and on a big head shake broke it. Why skimp just incase you get that big fish Fluro is invisible anyway. I'd go 30.

Floro does seem to be stiffer then regular mono. If you are using a teaser, I would think it would help keep the teaser away from and fouling back on the up on the rig.

Thoughts on this??

Agree with you 100%. I hand tie my own rigs for fluke and the flouro dropper loops that I make for my teaser hook never get caught up on the line as my rig descends.

I've noticed that too in the past, little pricer, but I spend less time worring about my rig tangling up on the drop, and it seems to hold up much longer than regular mono. I've also used the 39" pre-cut lengths of mono I purchased online with similar success.

Folks,
My partner always points out in his seminars that Pink Flouro(25lbs) tied direct to the bucktail and 15lbs test braid is the best!! Less terminal tackle the better, lightest braid possible, smallest bucktail! Something he had learned from a good buddy of his who writes for the fisherman.

PM, call or directly e-mail my partner for any question.
