My biggest concern with ideas such as this is the ability of the ocean waters being able to cleanse itself properly. Barriers will cause significant barriers for the ocean be able to push in clean waters and remove stained dirty waters from storms. I also believe in will make deposits of sand build up between the islands and the beach lowering the depths of time. I'm dead set against it

Don't like this idea at all. As mentioned above I think it would negatively effect the flow of water into and out of the NY bite area.

After they build the island, they will be able to lease the property out for the LNG terminal certain parties have been pushing for !

Another fine way for the government to waste our hard earned money. I DISAPPROVE!!! Mother Nature is the boss and if she wants to take you out, she will. No need to waste our tax dollars on a pile of crap in the middle of nowhere. Build a levee, that's fine, just make sure it's better than the the levees in the south. All these random ideas are horrible. Stopping MOTHER NATURE is like trying to stop the the fact that we all gotta go sometime. C'mon now????

They will waste millions of dollars constructing theses ridiculous structures only to have them destroyed by the first Nor'easter. Then, guess who will have to pay for the repairs?

I think the reef project is better then wasting billions
In a god forsaken country that we should not be in anyway!
And at least it will put Americans to work!

Another hair-brained idea..think the tidal surge is going to be stopped? When mother nature gets nasty, she gets her way no matter what we may think...wind driven water has an incredible force...look at the repairs to b'gat inlet jetties from Sandy to start soon...so many bad ramifications with this idea from prolonged flood waters to stagnated back bay waters to more musquitoes to less fish to oh, you all get the picture.....

I wonder how this would affect boats traveling to the mud hole or trips to the canyon?
You have got to be kidding................simply unbelievable.

Stupid. A better use of the money would be to buy out everyone who lives close enough to the shore to be at risk and level the buildings. Restore these places to their natural state. Anyone who opts out of the buy out is on their own. Living so close to the ocean is risky, we all know this, so why should we subsidize that risk with federal aid? You want to live oceanfront? Get your own insurance because this problem will only get worse as sea levels rise.
