It does inshore a lot more than offshore--have caught tuna on all phases. Even with a full moon setting in the west and sun just full up we did very well & with the current ripping....Same with a new moon.....

For me my experience for bass fishing witch is what im assuming your talking about since asking about night fishing....is either red hot or shoulda stayed home i usually always specifically target days up to and after the moon. Ive heard guys say the light scares them off that's bs ive slaughtered bass all night with full moon in my face! Faster and more dramatic tide changes the better in faster tides fished certain ways wil send you hone with a night of a life time!

Same here the few days before and after a full has always been good to me..Like Kmaty said I have also had killer nights when the moon is bright and high..But also i have been on a bite the days before only to skunk out on the full moon...Ya never no unless you go!..I do like full moon nights when its cloudy...And love the new moon especially in the back..light colored plugs with a full moon is the way to go..Actually always do well with a chicken scratch bomber/SP when its bright out!

Moons never worked for me inshore. Bad too strong currents.

Offshore is hit or miss. I do once yearly Canyon 24 hours trips. So selection is key for me.

Had a GREAT all time high 5 YFT's one night in October at Lindenkohl Canyon. The next 3 fall month full moons the BOAT caught very little at the hot Canyon. Stopped targetting moon tides.

I have done well chunking or plugging full moons for whatever reason I have not done well clamming the flats on a full moon and real flat nights, I think the combo of the light from the moon and such shallow water hurts your chances experience has shown that. Rough water white caps and clamming the flats on a full moon that's a different story. The rough water seems to out weigh the moon light

Damn right Kmaty!! The KEY to fishing!! I remember I thgink it was 3 falls ago..I asked my bud if he wanted to fish the night tides..I said i was gonna stay late..He said "Nah whats the use it a full moon no clouds and a S wind that is gonna pick up to 20mph,No thanks ill stay warm on my couch"...I said thats fine Ill go on a solo mission..Well i killed 3 myths in 1 night!! landed well over 15 fish and a few decent keeper size fish..Myth 1-Fish dont hit on a full moon!WRONG..Myth 2-Fish never hit light color plugs at night!WRONG all they wanted was chicken scratch and wonderbread bombers..Myth 3-The S wind always suck for catching WRONG..And also the only wanted it retrived FAST which was wierd cause all anyone ever says which is mostly the case "the slower the better" but like i said YA never no!!!...Oh my buddy was PISSED after about the 4th text from me with pics of fish!! When fishing the bay we want current! The full moon provides this and fish migrate on the moon. I love a new moon current in Raritan Bay for chunking bass:cool:

Best night time fishing I've had (for Stripers) was on a party boat early spring, off the tip of the hook during a full moon, outgoing high tide.
