I went into Wegman's today to buy a piece of fish for dinner. I was Blown away with what I saw. Local caught Black Sea Bass for $31.00 a pound. It was the highest price fish in the store. The commercials have to be licking their chops over these prices. Next years regs will probably be 2 fish over 24 inches.

The commercial guys are not licking their chops. Seabass are graded by size, and range from 2 to 4 bucks a pound whole weight. We had to catch 700 pounds yesterday to make it worth our while. Figure in a permit for the south Atlantic Snapper Grouper Complex, which is north of 40 grand, all the safety gear, turtle release gear, ect, there is little chop licking going on.

We have been a a very low 5 bass per person rec limit for many years now and a 13 inch size limit. Our season was as short as 4 months a few years back, but finally the rec and commercial limits are relaxing a bit. The last stock assessments said that we had more than enough to grow the quotas.

You're in FL... Here in NY $8-$10 a pound alive... $4 dead any size legal fish.

I don't know how you Florida boys do it,

Actually we are in North Carolina, not Florida, but we share the same regulations with Florida. It isn't an easy way to make money, but it fills in the gaps when I am not booked up with charters. I just hate being tied to the dock for more than a day or two at a time. :)
