I fish out of Atlantic Highlands Harbor Marina . Someone just told me they were informed that this year , if I plan on being in New York Waters , that we need New York Saltwater Reg's for all people over 16 on our Boat. In addition to the NJ ones .

Just wanted to see if anyone could confirm this .

Its getting Closer.............

Like NJ the NY salt licenes is free.
Just know that NY regs differ from NJ so if you are in NY with NJ keeper fluke you will be in trouble unless they are all huge fish. Lol

Actually.. this will no longer be the case this year as they are "regionalizing" the regs.. so we will all be fishing under the same rules.. But the registry part still goes..

Everything stated is true, however be careful! The only species that has been"regionalized" is fluke. The striper and many other species limits are not the same in NJ and NY.

NJ is 2 > 28" while NY is 1 from 28 -40" and 2nd > 40".

If you're registered in NY, do you also have to register in NJ?

Yes you need both state registration

It seems kind of funny that you have to register in both states but you do. If however you are fishing on a for hire boat (party or charter boat) you do not need to regsiter as their registation covers everyone on the boat but they too need to register in both states.

Another stupid rule. Why can't both states that share the border allow each other's fishermen to fish there, like with freshwater licences on the Delaware?

More gov't BS. Well, now at least Kevin can take you to his old stomping grounds if he wants, b/c the fluke regs are all the same.

See you soon, TM!

NY DEC changed their online registration format this year for the salt water registry. Instead of going to www.dec.ny.gov , you go to this link, https://aca.dec.accela.com/dec/ I just saved you 5 mins of looking for it on the dec website. Next, go to "register for an account" and follow the directions from there on filling out all your information and whatnot. For those that have registered in the past, you're still going to have to create a new account and enter in all your information, but once you enter it in, it retrieves your old information from previous years and your ID# will be the same. Instead of mailing you a colored registry card in years past, it is now a printable card just like NJ and it looks very similar. Hope this was helpful.

The web site worked for me today. I think the problem is in the area that you need to add an address. I think when you add your address make sure you click it as mailing address not home address. I did it as home address first and it didnt work, so I put the info in again and saved it as mailing address and it let me proceed to the next steps. Hope this helps.

Their online system has issues. The same people who did the Obama Care site must have engineered it

I finally gave up and called and was done in 2 minutes.
