Woke up nice and early after a good night of tossing and turning with excitement. Yesterday i picked up some clams from pete at Atlantic bait loaded up the car and through the rods on the roof with the little brother and off we went headed south to find nobody around our spot treked out through a swampy nasty defrosting swamp and set up 4 rods after about the first hr and a half my brother's rod is jumping in the holder..runs over swing and a miss...about another hr goes by and his pole goes again numbnutz misses again...while im doodling in the sand with my boot my poles never twitched a inch but was awesome chasing the striped ones again. in my opinion the day was a total success with thiscrazy ass weather!

you are the man kevin, cant waite till the fishermen is back in town and the stripers are around. see you there :D
Are you hitting the Raritan bay Shrewsbury navasink area or are you fishing further south. I'm just wondering cause in this area that I mentioned the water is hovering around the 33 to 28 degree mark. In my early season striped bass experience and that of the guys I fish with (some of the best) that is 16 to 10 degrees colder than we have ever caught fish in. And these attempts date back to march first of 1999 or 2000. in our experience the fish simply don't eat when the water gets that low. We have had one or two bites in 38_39 degree water but only one year.
this being said I give you credit for even trying with the way the water temps have been.

Oyster isn't the only place this early.....just got to look around;)
Typically I would agree with you urban angler but not when the water temps are between 28-35 degrees stripers simply don't chew in that cold of water. Warm water outflows are the exception. If the water temps were 38-39 I'd say its possible though I'd still like to be in the 43+degree range for my first bass

I tip my hat to you. Still waaaay to early for me to even think about night fishing for linesiders. Looking forward to seeing you post your first of the year. That'll motivate me to dust off the surf gear!
