I was told not to when I bought my boat.To me it's not worth chancing it as it only takes a few minutes to remove. If it's going to be off the boat for a while be sure to roll it up versus folding it as creases will develop.

Short trip at slower speeds say up to 40 mph I would leave it on. Longer trip at highway speeds I would take it off.

I trailer my boat (19 ft. CC)a decent amount, sometimes like 30 miles. I even go as far as securing the T-top to the front cleats just for an added protection against the higher speeds.

I leave mine on for short local tows under 45 mph to the Manasquan or Shark Rivers. I take it off for the long high speed tows on the Parkway up to the Raritian Bay or down to Delaware Bay.

Exactly like Gerry said. But I've seen pieces come off on the local roads at speeds around 40 mph.
