Soooo... yea... I'm addicted to hard water fishing. I blame you all!!!

Annnnywhooo... Dale and I crept out onto the ice around 7 AM this morning on the same middlesex county lake as last weekend. Rather than chippin' holes like last week, Dale brought his gas auger. F'n A does that thing make life a whooooole lot easier lol. Ice was about 8-9"...niiiiiiiiice. And slick too!

Dale starts making his rounds, swiss cheesin' while I set the tip ups. I think we had 9 or 10 out. First 15 mins, five tip ups in, 3 flags and one fish landed--decent bass, not a bad start. As the morning progresses, we get a steady pick of flags. We were popping fish at a nice pace--all bass--up to about 3 lbs. We were pretty jacked up from the solid action. Then a lull. I tell Dale that I'd like to leave around 2 PM. He says cool. The bite has slowed and we're only getting a flag here and there. Again...all bass. Right around 2 PM we start slowly making the rounds to pull up the tip ups.

As Dale starts walking to our farthest set of tip ups I hear FLLLLLAGGGG! He starts shimmying towards the hole and the tip up is dancing all over the place. He flips the tip up and gave the line a slight tug. Game on! I waddle on over as he's fighting the fish and then he reaches down and pulls an f'n TOAD out! Rips a "WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" across the ice and I snapped a pic. He measured her and she taped out at 21.5"! Sweeeetttt. She was easily 5 lbs.

But wait... there's more...

As I continue to go from tip up to tip up, packing it in. BOINGGG! "FLLAAGGGGGG!!!!!" Dale shouts "go get em' buddy!" This tip up wasn't doing the dance like Dale's piggy but it was pulling slow and steady. Then it stopped. Then it pulled some more--again, slow and steady. After about a minute and a half I say screw it. Got some tension on the line, felt the fish dart away and gave the line a quick short snap. Game on! Feels heavy... Slowly getting her up then zzzzzip, zzzzzip, zzzzip... She starts peelin' line through my fingers just as Dale goes "if it's big, it'll rip" lol... I get her to the hole and I let out a holy sh*t. I mean c'mon... It's my 3rd time ice fishing! Dale sees her head come up and lipped her and handed her off to me. A pic, a smooch and a release!

Yep... That's right. Back-to-back 5+ lb'ers right at the whistle! We high-tailed outta there with sh*t eatin' grins on our faces. We fished 9-10 tips ups from 7 AM-ish until 2 PM. We had about 20 flags go up and landed about 75% of them if I recall correctly. My mind was ruined/blurred by the back-to-back toad experience. Here's some pics. Dale... good times dude---good times! Feelin' like an ice bass assassin all of a sudden lol.. I'm getting spoiled on this lake!

Thanks guys. We had a pretty awesome day. Dale kept saying that I'm spoiled and there are days when you get nothing but I don't believe him LOL.

He's def showed me the ropes and, as stated by Predator, is def a good mentor. Always a good time regardless of whether we're catching or not--but it's def a better time when we are!

Bicey, I dunno if I'll be upset but it's def a pretty awesome day when you nail back-to-back hawgs--thru the ice no less! I'll equally embrace open water when the time comes haha... Esp for them wipers.

Eddie, if the ice lasts long enough you should def come through--it's certainly close enough!

Yea dude... I'm scratching and twitching over here lol. I still have to get used to the booms and tremors of expanding ice though. I almost jumped outta my boots a number of times during the day saturday. Dale got a kick out of it haha.

It's like six pm monday and I'm still smiling!!! Guy's at work were sick about hearing about our day yesterday for sure!!!

I just had that feeling about the spot we were fishing We found some nice green weed beds in about 10-15ft of water last week and I wanted to hit it again. We had great action there last week even though it was 75% perch and 25% bass so I expected to be having another Perch Fest but to not a one!
ALL LM, nice size beautifully colored. We were quite satisfied with the day before we caught those last two fish!

That never happens, ever!!! One large fish sure, TWO within minutes???
The pics don't do any justice to those fish!!!
I was beside my self NOT only for me But also for Jeremy!!! His smile met at the back of his head he was so happy!

Not that I know anything about catching fish but it appeared to me that as we were sitting there getting ready to wind up for the day, the front had started to come in they were forecasting.
All of a sudden it got cloudy, the breeze picked up and felt like the temp dropped like ten degree's.
I think that triggered these bigger fish to feed.
Seemed like a school of these fish came in and chowed down based on the weather change.

Mentor eh?

Gave him quite a lesson on landing fish on the ice yesterday as well.
Earlier in the day he started kicking the old man's behind and I was trying to catch up! Any one who fishes with me knows I'm not too quick or able to move too well, back/neck probs etc. so I wasn't running for flags so that gave him a slight advantage. I was hooked up and as I'm pulling the bass threw the hole it comes off in the hole. I JUMP down on the ice and jam my arm into the hole up to my elbow and pin the bass against the bottom of the ice with my hand! I was able to work the fish back to the hole and just as i start trying to work it back thru the hole it slipped out of my hand and I lost it!
Almost had it but sure FUNNY AS HELL to watch!!!

But I landed the two that counted ! Pressure was ON!! I knew we weren't dragging either one of them out of the hole by the leader!!!
He played that fish like an expert in my book!

The ice where we were at every once in a while you could feel the ice rise and sag back down, you could see the water in the holes rise and fall was pretty cool. No way were we going thru the ice it was three to four inches of hard frozen snow on top of six or seven clear inches. Stays cold gonna have ice in CJ till March!

Bring on MARCH MADNESS!!!!!!!ON THE ICE!!!!
