Alright fellas, with the cold weather coming in starting tomorrow night I believe its time to get some of you maniacs out on the ICE!!! Temps for the next 7 days are definitely looking to be in our favor. C'mon out, what else do you really have to do? Looking to start out on Monksville saturday January 11th. Sunday we'll try to get out on the one and only Lake Hopatcong. Come as you please and if you say your going to be there, well, show up!!! Just looking to get some of you fine members together. I've made alot of friends because of this fine site and making more is fine by me. So if your not busy let's get out and catch some fish. I'll see if I can whip up a big batch of my TEXAS CHAINSAW CHILI for the weekend, probably bring some dogs as well. Get off your couch, get your gear ready and LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Obviously if the ice is unsafe we will not be out there. I don't want to put anyone in danger. Picked up a fireplace grate from the Home Depot for all the guys that can't stand the cold. Myself and Bob have been stock piling firewood since last season. There will be fire to keep everyone toasty and warm. I can't start a fire on every lake but find that its easy to get away with on Monksville. IT'S GO TIME!!!

Like Eddie said everybody make an effort to come out, Im bringing my shelter w/heat and a gas auger, so even if you dont have ice gear just dress warm and bring a trout rod or UL setup and Ill drill u as many holes as you want

Hiked the west shore trail of Aeroflex with the wife today. About 60% of the lake is still open water. Didn't hike into the north pool but it looked frozen over although probably thin. Ice near the launch at the south end was real thin too. While getting our 2014 licenses at YOJ in Andover was told that Jefferson Lake is safe with people on it today.

MEET-N-GREET update. As of now the ice on Hopatcong is probably not going to be safe for this weekend. So with that said I'm going to go to Monksville Saturday and Sunday. It's all about meeting new people hanging out and having a good time. Is anybody with me? We caught some fish last year, unfortunately no Musky. COME ONE, COME ALL!!! The ice at Monks is safe. I wouldn't put anyone in danger. Looking to have a part 2 to the MEET-N-GREET on Hopatcong when the conditions permit. Probably hold part 2 on Sunday January 26. What do you think guys? I don't mind putting time in at the toughest Reservoir in NJ this weekend. Going to be a warm weekend so come on up and get JIGGY WITH IT!!!!

Weather.gov has greenwood lake being. Below freezing except Friday and Saturday. 60% chance of rain snow mix for Saturday. I'd tend to think ice will be fine especially with these temps.

The ice is pretty thick on the north side of Monksville. It's making ice everyday except for Saturday. The ice is fine it's the stinky weather forecast you have to pay attention to.

Fellas, pay attention to Saturdays weather. I'm not sure how you feel about ice fishing in the friggin rain. Mother Nature may screw us this weekend boyz!!!! I'm taking the ride up regardless. Hopefully the rain holds off or misses us somehow.

There's alot of fish to catch at Monks Dale. It's a tough place because it's a reservoir and not a lake. We catch some good fish there. The musky can get rather large in this place. C'mon up. We'll be out there early!!!! Miss you!!

As each day goes by Saturdays weather is looking more and more like crap. I'm looking forward to this M-N-G but don't want to put anybody in an uncomfortable situation. It's going to be very soggy out there Saturday fellas. If you don't show up, I don't blame you. Sunday looks much better, just a bit breezy. Those of you that want to come out, I'll be there. If it's a down pour in the morning Saturday. Use your own judgement. We will get together this year, no worries!!! We might be able to get a half day in before the downpours begin.

25 anglers today and not a big fish to show. Mitch did get 1 Good sized Perch around 12 inches. Thanx for coming to PART 1 of the NJF ICE FISHING M-N-G. There will be no more ice party's on Monksville/ SKUNKSVILLE anytime soon. I hate to see good anglers struggle for a fish or 2. Fishing stunk and that's the straight up truth. On the other hand there's nowhere else is rather be, better than sitting home without a doubt. Good food, great people and some laughs. See you out there soon fellas.

Despite not many of us catching fish, it was great to meet my NJ angling friends today.......Monksville lived up to it's name..That place SUCKS!!!!!!!!!......I haven't fished it since early 90's and prob will not fish it until 2050(at least!!)........This was alot of fun......I'm glad i met you all and want to be a part of these in the future.... ...Great bunch of guys sharing the love of the sport......and hope you liked Debi's Chili.....Let's do it again soon!!!

good time and great meeting some new faces........couldnt beleive when I rolled up at 7am w Anthony and Eddie was first guy there haha......also hard to beleive I had a good day on skunks w 3 jigged fish, unfortunately the range was 4" to 7" LOL. was prob my first and last time on skunksville, over 100 tipups out and not 1 fish or flag, they were all jigged up.......see yas in 2 weeks on my lovely LH hopefully

I will be attending the Paradise Fishing Clubs IFF. ICE FISHING IN FEBRUARY! Every Sunday in February. Greatest ice fishing contest in NJ. Bonus 50 dollars for the biggest panfish weighed in each Sunday. Anybody interested in joining me on Big Swartswood, send me a PM. Had a blast as usual. Quite a bit of good chow, a few brews, a little barry white and a ton of laughs!!!
I came with the intent to have a good time and not worry if I caught any fish or not.
To me personally the ice meet&greets are more about hangin with the crew!!!
Great to meet some of the other guys.

I got a late start and as I was driving up 287 I realized that even though I had my ice box I had NO SLED, NO GAS FOR THE AUGER, AND NO BUCKET WHICH MEANT NO BAIT!!!!! WTF!!!! So I grabbed three tip ups and brought some fried chicken to the party! LOL My boys took care of the rest!! Like it mattered, no flags all day!
NEVER WILL FISH SKUNKSVILLE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next year it better be some where good EDDIE!!!!!!!

Alright you buncha HARDWATER MANIACS!!! Part 2 of the ICE M-N-G will go down as planned on Sunday January 26th at Lake Hopatcong. Cold Arctic air is moving in and there is still fishable ice in alot of places. We'll be getting on the ice at Barnes Bros. With this cold streak coming in the edges will make a comeback and the ice will thicken up plenty. C'mon out if you have nothing to do. We will definitely catch fish at the one and only LH!!!

As for food, bring whatever you want. I'm going to bring a tray of sausage and peppers. If we get a good turn out agin, we'll need two men manning the grills/stoves. My main man GetAnet will be part time chef for the day. Let's get out there fellas, nothing but fun times to be had by all.

Checked the fishing grounds for Sunday festivities today with Mikey Topaz. Ice is 4-6 in most spots and will be somewhere around 8-10 by the weekend. Fishing was very slow today as we could only come up with a few dink Perch between the both of us. It's all good. The fish will be biting Sunday for sure. C'mon out boys. Tried to get out at Greenwood today, but too much open water!!!!!......couldn't believe it.....had we known, we would have brought a few non ice gear and tried hammering some 'eyes!!!!.....We ended up at Green Turtle where the ice was 5-6" and jigged up 20+ very small perch and bluegills......By Sunday, lakes should be bulletproof again......I hope!!!

Guys just dress REALLY warm, like whatever u were thinking of wearing put on an extra layer and DONT FORGET longs johns and thermals underneath it all, bring extra stuff leave in ur vehicle just in case.....I have an ice suit and I got layers on underneath it for sub 20s temps esp w the wind its gonna be blowin a little bit sunday......it aint no fun being cold.

We got plenty of augers between us, Ill drill as many holes as u want to whoever needs it, if you have no gear just bring a set of ice picks and a trout rod u can jig w that just fine.

Anthony was out this morning for a few and theres 7+ off barnes so no worries, u can drive a quad or snowmobile on that thickness.....

Bring what you you need and whatever you want. If you need help carrying stuff out , well have plenty of people to help. Throw a shovel in your truck or car, I plan on taking advantage of the snow on the ice by making a possible wall or firepit.

Quick report, Today at the "FREEZE AND GREET" we had another great turn out as far as NJF'ers which I was quite amazed to see!
Conditions were EXtreme today with the below 0 wind chill and the wind cranking with several bone chilling gusts later in the afternoon. Some guys did pretty well jigging up the yellow perch and a couple pickerel also. Not much action on the tip ups today although I got my only fish of the day on one with a small shiner. As usual the food was great and plentiful as well as the laughs.
Great to see everyone, the guys from part 1 and the guys who came out today, awesome to hang with today!!!.
The crew even all got shaken down by a couple F&G guys and not one tickey!!!! LOL Nice guys and glad to see them out there on patrol !!!!

I broke free from chains today and met up with the boys on the hardwater. I couldnt believe the turnout! Met some great new guys and saw some familiar faces and its a blast when its below zero and everyone is laughing and having a good time making the ice into swiss cheese(mikeytopaz..cough) ha. Despite the chill we got a bunch of perch (eddys lawndarts) and i saw someone holding up a beautiful pickerel nice job. All in all once again a great day with great guys!

Meet and greet on the ice. Browns point, west Milford nj, south shore of greenwood lake. Park has a nice setup, picnic tables and we can bring bbqs. Trees to hide out if it gets hairy. I was thinking the same thing - a basic normal size grill and tank is fairly portable and can be carried out on the ice by 2 guys. Should work for everything food wise, have plenty of run time and not have the flames blown out by the wind. Add a folding table next to it for food items, prep and serving and that's all we would need.

Charcoal will work just as well fellas. Remember if you cook something and put it in a disposable tray, buy 2 trays. That way we can heat the food gently, you know, like using sterno. Little bit of water in the bottom tray, boiling water heats the food evenly. I had sausage and peppers Sunday, but they didn't get heated up. I ate em for dinner Sunday night and for lunch Monday, MMMMMMMMMM GOOD!!!! Sorry the chef wasn't on his game. We'll do much better next time. Chili is always a hit, bring it! Burgers, dogs, sausage and peppers, kielbasa and kraut, soups, steaks and everything else can be done. C'mon dudes!!!! Let's GIT-R-DONE!!!!!!!

Ok. I've been following this madness and now I think it's got me. I've wanted to ice fish since I was twelve (Grumpy Old Men premiered that year) and I would like to hit up a meet n greet. Practicality clearly points out that I should combine the two! Though I have no ice fishing experience whatsoever, I am versed in dealing with the cold, love fishing, and would like to meet you nutballs! I can bring a small generator, portable propane grill, hot dogs, crockpot containing a roast, possibly some firewood, a few beers, and my sense of humor. On the no gots list is an auger, though from what I read there should be plenty o holes. I gotta squirrel away some bucks, but my trusy pencil and paper here tell me I can do it. I plan on bringing a light spinning rod since it's the only rod I have that'll work, unless I should bring my surf rod for a photo-op :p. I know I gotta spool up with braid and get some flouro for leaders, and I plan on usin' jigs and shiners, but advice on appropriate hooks and jigging options would be appreciated! I'll say I'm 90% on this, just gotta make the numbers work and find the little miss a ride to work. And if I can't, well maybe I'll just pull my lip over my head and swallow!:D:D I'll let you guys know as soon as I can!!

Are the fenwick ice fishing combos worth it? Might have to get a jigging rod for this event. Not looking to break the bank....just something serviceable. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Are we even gonna fish this time??? This is how it used to be back when my son played LL BB and we would go to a ton of tourneys, First starts out with a couple dogs and burgers and then morphed into these crazy party's!!!
We had TWO eight foot tables that were filled with everything you could imagine from shrimp and steak to Homemade desserts as well as a ton of beers and homemade sangria!!! Talk about good times!!!
Every Meet & Greet is differrent depending on the time of year, Type of fishing, and location. The Ice M&G's are one hell of a good time because we all hang out together!!!

While we still have ice we should def try to get one in further south. We all know I love Spruce so that might be a good place or maybe something further south. Hey SOUTHERN NJF'ERS LET'S GET SOMETHING GOING DOWN YOUR WAY! TIME TO SPEAK UP!!! You know your lakes and if the ice is good throw one up on the board!!!! Monmouth, Mercer, Ocean I'll drive. Be cool to get together with some new Maniac's!

I'll recommend a 28" Ugly Stick med action ice rod as the one to get....it's 20.00 at Dick's....I happen to like that rod because it's tip is super sensitive and appropriate for jigging and feeling a light bite...(yes I broke one over the weekend but it was my error)......If you have a small reel already you use for trout, you can slap that on......the only thing you'll have to do is strip some line off and put some ice line on....so for @ 30.00, you're in business.....jig selection is pretty easy too.....a 1/8 oz silver kastmaster or swedish pimple and a few teardrop jigs is all you need.....I'll post a link for that rod in the am....hope that helps.....some others will give you good suggestions on here as well....there are some very knowledgeable guys on this board....

As for food, I think a big pot of homemade New England Clam Chowder or Cream of Mushroom Soup is gonna be my item!!....Is either one ok w/ everyone or is there a preference towards one.....Not a problem, just let me know in advance!!.....

It's time to pop my hard water cherry. You guys are crazy obsessed with fishing and I freaking love that. It's going to be great meeting peeps who share the same interests. Its a beautiful thing indeed. I will cook up some Chard and Smoked Andouille Sausage soup the night before. My portable camping burner should be suffice in heating it up on the ice. I'm thinking Saturday February 22nd on Spruce Run for our 4th and probably final ICE EXTRAVAGANZA. I have some friends on here that can't get out on Sundays so it has to be Saturday. Just a thought being as every party thus far has been pretty far north. Think about it fellas, let me know how you feel about the situation. I personally haven't been on Spruce in 5 years. Can't wait to get on that MOFO!!! Ok who's in? Who's interested? Ice is somewhere around 8 inches thick according to my sources.

Just picked up a medium daiwa at franks. A lot of backbone paired on an old blue runner reel that was collecting dust. 40lb braid, aiming to jig big stuff with a lil luck.
